Go find a couple of bike shops and ride a few bikes. Get the bike that fits your body and budget, and that makes you want to ride it. There is something to be said for looking at a bike and thinking it looks good. If you want to ride in the rain ( I see you are in Seattle) look for a bike that will take fenders. For your budget of $3k max there are numerous posibilities for great bikes. Keep in mind where you buy from too. It can be said that when you buy a bike you also buy a bike shop. Many shops will offer free basic fittings or tune ups, so be sure to ask.

My personal favorite bike shop in the greater Seattle area is Snohomish Bicycles. A little north of Seattle, but a great shop, FWIW.

Someone with just enough knowledge to make them dangerous.
I hear it more when talking about photographers. Canon and Nikon and Professional lines and Consumer Lines. The Prosumer falls in between.

He wants Pro level gear but is just a regular schlub. Proto-Fred?

DSLR camera market sells them stuff to take snapshots and their Money..

Carbon Road bike .. a replica of the stuff the Pro's ride , but sold to the consumer ... its what the Bike Biz Is all about, in that sector.

Most brands will have one if theyare serious about the middle range and upward..

You know I ignored this thread when it was first posted due to the use of the word prosumer. I am no English major but it is not a proper word.

I was at a professional development talk by a neuropsyc Ph.D. who used the word prosequence; he lost credibility in my books. At an education program talk the word polylogue was used in place of dialogue. I love being a teacher, but parts of becoming a teacher were not so enjoyable.

A lot of good frames/bikes in that range. I ride a Specialized Roubaix and love the geometry and the way it handles rough roads.

Specialized Bicycle Components

Carbon is my pref. (Light and stiff)
Ultegra groupset

If you're enjoying your 30-year-old bike enough to ride 250 miles a week, consider getting a new bike with the same geometry. It's obviously working for you.

Prosumer is a useful word, don't apologize for using it.

You might want to check out the C&V (Classic & Vintage) forum here. Good stuff- usually w/o the new bike price tag. For joy riding, vintage steel (especially the better stuff) is a really nice ride.
