Mtn Tandem near Angel Fire/Taos

Our family is headed to the Angel Fire/Taos area for vacation this summer and would love for my stoker and I to be able to ride some dirt. We ride a road tandem and both mountain bike on singles but would like to give a mtn tandem a try. I have tried a couple shops in the area but have not had any luck so thought I would try here. Anyone have any idea where I might be able to track down a mtn tandem for rent? Thanks, dbuhler.

They are so rare I would be surprised if you can find one for rent. I've only seen one in all the years I raced in OK and AR.

I figured it was a long shot but thought I would throw it out there.

That's a good place to ride. I've only been there once and that was skiing. A friend of mine has been to that are mountain biking several times and he says it's a great place to ride.

My guess is to take the total number of road tandems and then maybe 5-10% of that for mtb tandems. Still, mtb tandems is a lot more active an area than I thought before we got involved.

Many tandem shops (for the all of 20 in the country?) will have mtb tandems on their floors. Some available for test rides, maybe some for rent. Perhaps the closest tandem shop to Taos would be in Denver - Tandem Cycle Works.

Alex Nutt seems to be the USA main source. You will also find the FaceBook page linked on his site. The mtb tandem FB group is quite active. see: MTB Tandems | Website

We got our Fandango (frame and fork) hardtail indirectly from Alex via an individual in GA that was moving to a full suspension Ventana.

Alex might be able to hook you up with a source in the Taos area.
