Just wondering how many Bike Forum types will be there? If you see a big clyde on a white Ceverlo R3 gasping for breath...that will be me. Say hi as you pass me!

I'm trying to work out my lodging and think I'll just pitch a tent near the convention center thing. Has anyone done this, and know anything about parking? Packet pick up? Other tips or things I should know? This is my first one, so I'm kinda going in blind.

I will be there but in a hotel. It is usually too hot to sleep outdoors. You might want to check the indoor camping places listed on the HH100 website. The area around the MPEC building is way too noisy for me but you might be okay with earplugs. Parking shouldn't be a problem if you are patient and wait for the Expo to close and the racing to end. Packet pickup is pretty painless. It looks like it isn't going to be super hot but still drink plenty and be at the starting area for your ride length by 6:30 or earlier.
The first year I went my riding buddy and I camped out at Arrowhead State Park. It was hot and we ended up sleeping on picnic benches not in the tent. Vowed to not do that again.

This will be the first year my wife and I do this ride. We'll be doing the 100K route on our red Cannondale Tandem.

For lodging you could check the HHH Facebook page and see if anyone has posted room availability. Usually this time of year people decide they don't want to ride and so are looking for a way to recoup their room reservation.

Planning my third try this year. First time (2012), I made it to 71 miles before overheating, feeling nauseous and catching a SAG. Second time (2013), I finished the 100 mile route.

I'm a fairly slow plodding cyclist and there were a few things I did differently between 2012 and 2013 that helped:
- In 2012, I rode my (slower) mountain bike. In 2013, I rode my recumbent. In addition to having a faster bike, I had an earlier start time. In 2012, it took me ~45 minutes before I even passed the start line. In 2013, I left with tandems and recumbents up front and we left even before opening canon.
- In 2012, I stayed ~90 miles away. I was up way early driving. I didn't eat very much at start of the day. In 2013, I stayed in Wichita Falls and slept longer and had better breakfast.
- In 2012, I wasn't as good at keeping hydrated as in 2013. Once it gets very hot, I have more difficulty keeping hydrated (noticed in 2013 as well but I was a lot further along).
- In 2013, I was slightly better shape.

Not sure how 2015 will go. I'm bringing my recumbent again and staying ~45 miles away.

Riding this year for the first time ever. Will be attempting the 100 mile course. Already started hydrating via 64 oz water a day and eating more wet fruits (i.e. watermellon, cantelope). Been doing a lot of heat training this summer so hopefully I'm ready. I'm going to shoot for a 14 mph average so as to have a bit left in the tank at the end. Might be the only person there in an LSU jersey . Hope everyone that's riding has a safe enjoyable experience.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I did the goatneck(70mi) this year, and the Blazing saddles ride(76mi), both at about 17mph. I've only done 1 full out century, but several 65-80 miles rides this summer in the heat. I'm riding with friends who have done it, so that will help. But still, it's going to be a challenge!

How'd everyone's ride go? This was our first year to do this ride and from the stories I have heard we lucked out on the weather. My wife was an awesome stoker we completed the 100k with a 19.5 average. It was fairly congested for the first 20 - 25 miles so we rode fairly conservatively and then once the rode started to open up we started to push harder. At one point I looked in my mirror and could see 6 -8 bikes hanging on our wheel ... good times. We did see 1 crash, looked like just one person but she seemed to be in a lot of pain. Prayer for her healing.

My son and I rode the hundred mile endurance ride on a tandem. We had a good ride, with milder winds and heat than in many years. We had a nice time until the lead vehicle led us off course with a mile to go, but we just said a few words under our breath and waved nicely when we passed her a few minutes later.

Was able to finish the 100M ride this year. I'm slow and overheated in 2012 so concentrated on a two part strategy this year: Up until Hell's Gate - push a bit to keep moving and get as far as I can before it gets hot. After Hell's Gate - stop at each rest stop and make sure I stay cool. It took me somewhat less than 8 hours, split ~50/50 between the first 60 miles and the last 40 miles and I was happy with that (13.1 average, 15.7 up until Hell's Gate and 10.2 afterwards)..

Two water bottles wasn't quite enough, so ended up topping off at rest stops #1 , #3 and #5 . Next time, I'll bring a third bottle and try for only two rest stops in the first 60 miles. Compared with 2012, we lucked out with wind. My Garmin recorded slightly lower average temp than 2013 (91.1F vs. 92.7F). Those are above asphalt temperatures and the highest this year was briefly 111F vs 109F in 2013. That 111F was likely brief instance w/o breeze, climbing a hill over asphalt and in general it didn't record above 100F until the last two hours riding.

I did the 100 yesterday for the first time. My second century. 17.9 mph. I kept it above 18 for 88 miles, but just couldn't keep the pace in the heat and wind for the last 12.

It was an interesting experience. Glad this was a cooler than usual year as I wouldn't ride it any hotter than that. I think I'll go back next with a hotel room and do the shorter routes so I can enjoy the other activities more.

No, I was in a red, white, and blue PBP jersey and he was in a black and white Bike World jersey. He's 28, now--he rode his first century at HHH on the back of our tandem when he was 12. This year we beat that time by almost 4 hours!

Had a great HHH! Did the full century, and crushed my goal time of sub-7hrs with a gps time of 5h 56m. 17.0 avg, and I was the yellow helmet on the Schlitter Encore black recumbent.

I was expecting way hotter temps but as someone mentioned we lucked out this year. Gf and i did the 100k, I was in the blue/red team fuji and gf in a white and blue bridgestone rb2 in case anyone noticed our old bikes lol.
we came up on the ambulance on a downhill pretty close to the start, i wonder if that was that girl that someone mentioned? ill try for the 100 miles next year.

This is going to be my first attempt at 100 mile endurance ride. I will be staying with family thankfully. Anyone else already planning to go in 2016?

I've heard about this event since I was a kiddo, so I am crazy excited to finally be able to participate.
