Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

anybody else waiting on a caad9???

So i ordered a caad9 4 in early July, and my LBS told me that the bike would ship in late july so but cannondale is usually beats their estimates. End of July comes, and they tell me that cannondale is having some problems getting some parts to finish the bikes, so 2-4 more weeks, 2 weeks later, they again tell me 2-4 more weeks, and they don't know when the parts are coming in, today I called cannondale directly again, and again they told me 2-4 weeks, and they have no estimated timeline on when they are getting parts. WTF?

I am going to call my LBS again tomorrow to have them talk to their rep. i am starting to get kinda pissed, that i lost august, and may now lose september as well.

Does anyone have any more info on this situation??

Sounds fishy, but I really don't know what I'm talking about. What is your level of trust in your LBS? Do you have any other LBS's you can call to check availability? Is it a problem with the "model year changeover"?

I trust my LBS, and it is not an issue on their end, and i have gotten in touch with cannondale directly a couple of times now.
The problem is that they had one more production run for caad9's out of PA. They exhausted their supplier's stock of parts (forks, i think, but maybe some other parts too), this i understand, but the part that is frustrating me, is that when i ask when the parts are going to come in, their stock response has been that they have no idea, and it will probably be a couple of more weeks. they also have made it clear that they have no plans of compensating me in any way for possibly waiting 3 times as long as they told me it was going to be.

i'm not looking for pity here, just wanting to see if anyone else is dealing with this too.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. Is it worth canceling the order and ordering a 2011 CAAD10 4, size 63, color black

I don't really want to buy one of the first run of bikes from their new factory, i have no problem buying an aisian-made bike, just not the first iteration.

climberguy69, I've dealt with Cannondale for nearly twenty years, through my LBS and directly. Excellant service, I imagine things are a bit in turmoil right now with possibly nobody that is at the dealer and customer level really knowing what's going on.

I'm in the same boat ... ordered a red CAAD9-4 60cm in early July, still waiting. At one point, LBS told me that Cannondale listed the bike as "scheduled to ship ..." in the ordering system, but apparently it did not ship on that date and now I'm told to expect the bike in early Sept.

This is driving me batty. At this rate, the 1985 SR frame+fork (serial # CC147) I recently picked up is going to be built up before my CAAD9 arrives. I guess my consolation prize is that I'll have 2 bikes that roughly bookend the frame production in Bedford.

You didn't say what model.

There is a lot of availability in the two lower models (looked at the dealer site) but since you provided neither the size nor model you ordered, a lot of help is impossible to give. Also did you order compact, double, what?

There are models coming online as they work through the warranty frames they still have and get parts to build out the bikes. Not much in the higher end models as fewer people want those.

Your LBS has access to the same information I do.

Ya know though... You work for Cannondale in PA. You know your job is soon to be outsourced to Asia and you've seen a bunch of your co-workers shown the door. Ain't much else around to do unless you travel for a new job. Do you care much?

I doubt I would.

in my short time with Cannondale I saw hundreds of CAAD9's, mostly 9 5's, boxed and piled up 8 feet high. I asked about it and they said that they were all missing a part of some sort or another. There were all sold and waiting to be completed and shipped out. It's just that time of year where suppliers are letting current inventory dwindle until next years models become available.

I ordered my 2010 CAAD9 4, 54 Compact in Red on Aug 6th and it was ready to be picked up on the 11th. I was told they didn't have any BBQ in stock for Aug but they would in Sept.

Anyway, I love the bike.

i placed an order for a frameset (60cm black) on a Thursday at 6pm. the shop gave me some story about not knowing if framesets were still available and i had a 50/50 chance of getting it. 6 days later, on a Wednesday at 12pm i picked up the frameset from the shop. they had several different complete 9s in stock, but all for short folks. that is all i know. later.

I got my 9-5 the next day from my LBS, but that's only because they had quite a few CAAD9s in stock.

If you're a 50, then you can check REI.com for deals there. There's also a CAAD (i think 9-5) 54 at my LBS if you're interested

I bought my '10 9-5 right off a shop floor, for 40% off retail.
That was in February though.

I ordered a 58cm 2009 Caad9 1 in mid-April and had it about five weeks later. There were white ones available sooner, but I was dead set on the matte black and it was well worth the wait. Sorry to hear you're watching your summer go by waiting for your new bike.
