Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nothing bike related. I've got a six month out of town work assignment coming up, involving a lot of airline seat time every 10 days. I'm a voracious reader, so I asked for and got a Kindle e-book reader. Also got a sweater, a pair of slippers, and a pair of pants.

dbikingman's story made me feel like a selfish creep, though. I'm with pcad (Never thought I'd type those words!).

The gift you gave us tonight was amazing. I was able to buy the stuff to cook the christmas dinner in with the gift card you gave me. This year has been life changing for me and my kiddos. My daughter last night was sitting with my son and him being four he now knows what santa is about and he was talking to her about what santa was going to give him. My six year old told him moms broke santa isnt coming. I was chrushed that my six year old daughter had grasped the idea that I had nothing to give them. You have brought santa back my daughters have no idea that they will wake up to presents in the morning. You truly were our angels tonight, I hope you have a amazing christmas
Absolutely beautiful! Merry Christmas to you and your new friends. I am glad you were able to help them out and hopefully bring them a very merry Christmas. The true definition of giving and understanding what Christmas is all about!

Lot of stuff, the bike schwag was sweet. The Mrs got me a Salsa Vaya frame I'd been scoping and the kids bought me a couple of jerseys.

Now to figure out how I want to build the frame out...

My one Christmas present. It's not new, but that's OK.

Time to park the roadie and hit the trails.

Best gift here. We participate in a adopt a family program here locally, this year our family was a dad & his 4 year old. The boy wanted a scooter, so we got him my first scooter and a helmet, and the Dad got a $50 target gift card to get groceries and such. We got a nice thank you note (in spanish) from the dad on Christmas Eve, really made our day.

As far as myself, I got a new road ID, and a PI Pro Series Thermal Jersey, and pile of Honey Stinger Waffle energy bars. The wife got a pair of Woolie Boolie socks, a Gore Windstopper Cap, a pair of Gore Windstopper glovers, and a pair of PI booties (she had no cold weather riding gear).

Oh and ... almost forgot ... my employer gave me an 18-month contract, at the Band Level I was hoping for, doing what I was hoping to do. The Letter of Offer arrived on Christmas Eve. It's a much more relaxing Christmas with that decided!!

Awesome. I'll bet that's the best present you ever get. Nothing is more wonderful than making someone else's life a little bit better.

On second thought, though, I think the best gift was my wife texting me pics of my daughter opening her gifts yesterday morning. I was stuck at work, and didn't get home til almost 8am, and you can't expect little kids to be patient on Christmas morning. Ain't technology grand?
