Lynskey or Other Ti Frame...Last Bike

Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Joe from Chris King says they don't make a headset to fit the tapered headtube. I was really hoping to go with a CK headset.

Edit to add: What makes this even weirder is I asked Neil at Lynskey about what Cane Creek headset I would need on the R275 and he linked me to a straight headtube. So, hence my surprise when I saw that post above.

I am cherry picking all the exact parts (from what I believe the best I can afford) for my bike build and I had my heart set on the CK. I've been waiting a long time for my next Lynskey. My last one I bought was a Litespeed back on '01. So I have been saving a number of pennies to get my "dream bike" so to speak.

Say WHAT? They sell Insets (such as Inset 2 or 7, depending on what you need) that are just the ticket:

I'd talk to someone other than "Joe"...who hasn't looked at their product page.

Although the Cane Creek 110 is just as nice and blingy, LBS stocks a few of the CK and they prefer the CC110 for nice builds these days. It also is available in colors and just about any HS standard. Just need to know what the headtube bore top and bottom is and what steerer you're using.

Different than the pictures on the website my R275 came with a tapered headtub and flat mount brake. Lynskeys site still has pics of the R265. Their camera must have run out of film.....

I like the look of the tapered headtube better than straight for sure. Frankly I cannot see much if any difference from the R260 and the R275.

Headset just buy inset 42/52 as recommended for the R260. The bottom piece you will just need the bearing and race (no cup) and for the top just a bearing and top cap / race. Cane Creek makes 40s and 110s that fit the Lynskeys.

Marcus,

Thanks! I thought that was pretty weird thing from CK. I'll follow up again this week on what I will need. And I won't be heartbroken if they don't have one. As you mentioned, the CCs are pretty sweet and the one I have on my '00 LS is going strong.

Matt,

I agree. I do like the look of the tapered HT as well. I'll confirm with Lynskey about this also later in the week so that way I'll know what HS I will need.

Appreciate the info.
