Bicycles have gotten insanely expensive.

$10,500 for one of top-of-the line Cannondale models. You have to still sweat and pedal that stupid thing! A $250 bike or even a $700 one will get you just as fit and well-exercised for sure.

Think of the more substantial things you could buy for $10,500.

Think of the nice ATV or side-by-side off-road vehicle you could buy with an ENGINE.

Think of the decent second-hand powerboat or snowmobile you could buy.

Think of the decent used car, van SUV or work truck you could buy.

Think of all the furniture you could buy.

There are far more frivolous things to spend $10,000 on than a bicycle. Some people pay five figures for a diamond ring, or a Rolex watch, or a home theater.

If you spend lots of time on the saddle, it's a perfectly cromulent purchase.

Think of it this way. All those cashed up middle aged men buying over priced bikes are helping to keep those companies in business so they can afford to release more sensible lower priced models for the rest of us.

In 1980 I wanted a new Masi Gran Criterium, the cost was $1800, not including tires. Adjusted for inflation, that would be nearly $6000 today, for a steel frame, friction shifting, and 12 speeds. I wish I still had it.

Makers always (if they are smart) have "luxury" models in their lineup, as the luxury market tends to remain consistent despite changes in the economy.

But look at all the money the owner saved in medical bills by being healthy riding the bike.

Considering the very sizable amount of $$ I've pi$$ed away in my life at the ripe age of 66.... and I've been so very blessed to have it to pi$$ away. Spending $10k on a bike, considering all the health benefits both physical and mental seems like a bargain to me.

And, there are a lot of solid bikes in the $1 to 2k range....

Think of the more substantial things you could buy for $10,500.

Think of all the nice Beretta shotguns and Weatherby hunting rifles you could buy for that price. (I don't shoot)

Think of the nice ATV or side-by-side off-road vehicle you could buy with an ENGINE. (No place locally to use one)

Think of the decent second-hand powerboat or snowmobile you could buy. (Buying the boat is the cheap part. Maintaining it and docking fees get expensive real fast)

Think of the decent used car, van SUV or work truck you could buy. (already have a good car)

Think of all the furniture you could buy.(Looking to downsize, not buy more)
It all depends on what YOU want.

If all you want is cheap exercise you're welcome to come by my house house once a week and cut the grass. Or walk 10 miles carrying gallon water jugs.

An expensive bike is not just about burning calories.

If you've never ridden one.. don't knock it.

BTW... I have 23,000 miles on my bike so i'm around 50˘ per mile.

Finally, a different view of Indyfabz's bike.

Bicycles have literally always been expensive. The expense of racing bicycles and the trickle down of technology has always been a part of the reason bicycles have been made cheaper for the ‘common man’. Exact same thing with the history of the motorcar. That’s capitalism. That’s why the common man laughed their asses off at the absurdity of ‘penny farthing’ riders, and wealthy people laughed at safety-cyclists from the seats of their motorcars.

and you should be IP banned from the forums for creating so many useless, obvious troll threads. Cheers.
