Her picture-looks like she was under 50 yo-young in other words.

Is there any lesson here? Not taking a shot at her, but tragedies like this are used to prevent future tragedies in aviation,and other potentially dangerous activities-SCUBA MINING LUMBERING FIRE FIGHTING
Was it downhill? Meaning fast
Were they pace line riding-drafting etc-
Any details available?

From everything I've read, this was just a normal group ride. At least a dozen times I've been riding along and noticed that my wheel was about 1 inch away from the wheel in front of me. Just a moment's inattention, or an almost imperceptible reduction in speed by the rider in front of you, is enough to do it. It could have happened to any one of us who doesn't ride alone.

This is a real tragedy.

The link says that she crossed wheels with another rider while making a left turn onto Sunset. That could explain why she went down so hard.

I used to ride with the Wheelmen quite a bit but drifted away from enthusiast cycling and into transportation/utility cycling only. Pam and Steve Bowen were my two best friends in the Wheelmen. All three of us entered the club about the same time and since Pam and I lived about a mile apart we commonly rode up to The Corner together for ride starts. We also rode at a similar speed and kept together on many rides. We got together socially away from the club and I knew Bob well enough to stop and chat with him at the Ralphs near to our homes. Alas, we didn't keep up our habit of coffee and chat and now, as is the cliche, I regret it. My cycling world still feels empty knowing Steve is not in his shop in PV and now, if I went to ride with the Wheelmen, Pam won't be there... Pam was smart and quirky and honest and fair and just simply kind to everyone. I feel so fortunate to have called her a friend. Pam had at least a fifteen year relationship with Kermit and Rod and Nancy D and the others from the Wheelmen. My heart goes out to them as well. They must be suffering terribly; much worse than I and I am a wreck right now.
