I went to Bike Planet https://thebicycleplanet.com/, they give a 10% discount to 5BBC members and were really nice.
Trying the helmets on in person was worth the trip. The medium was to small and some of the large ones seemed big (The Ionos Large hit my head at a vent point without padding).
The Giro Proligh large was noticeably lighter and seemed to be the best choose.
Thank you everyone for your comments.

I got the Prolight too. Love the "Roc Lock SL" retention system. It is elastic instead of some kind of ratcheting mech. It fits snug with out being overly tight. It is noticeable light too. It is replacing a 2 year old Specialized S-Works which was advertised as the "world's lightest". They didn't mention that you can't get the uber-light version in the US as it doesn't pass CPSC standards. The US version is almost 100 grams heavier.
Anyway, the Giro fits great -and the colors match my bike too

I just replaced my four-year-old Giro Atmos with a new Ionos. I went with the Ionos because it supposedly has better venting, and it's pretty hot here in NC.
The Ionos is noticeably heavier than the Atmos - I think Giro reported the difference at 60 grams. But the Ionos fits a lot better. I looked at the Pro Light, because of the weight (IMO, a helmet is one area where weight is truly important) but the venting didn't look that good on it.
If you are going to be racing in the U.S., make sure it is a CPSC certified helmet to meet new USA Cycling requirements. I don't believe Catlike and some other Eurpean brands have that certification.

In my area, there are a few riders with the Whisper Plus.

Another Bell Volt user... Doesn't Bell and Giro come out of the same factory? At least that is what I thought I remember hearing somewhere. I really like the fit of the Volt.
Suggest you try before you buy... like mentioned above.

Yes I crushed my Giro stylus in an accident and called bell's number and they are giving me 30 percent off when I order a helmet from them, and i should have it within 7 days.

Well I did a 60 mile ride and the helmet was a big improvement over the old one.
It is so light you don't even though that is is on. A lot of money for a helmet but i think it is worth it.

I suggest you go for The Catlike Whisper Plus Helmet, since it's not that expensive and The helmet's distinctive design is so unique.
Anyway, you already bought the prolight one, and i agree that it is one of the modern light-weight cycling helmets today.

^^and the Catlike is more expensive than any helmet he was considering. You can get it here in the USA by buying it from overseas online vendors, but the best price I have seen is still $180++

Beyond fit, is there a reason one helmet is safer than another? I bought a Bell for something like $30. It's light, fits great, and seems to offer about everything an expensive helmet offers. Am I missing something, or do the more expensive helmet cater to those with harder to fit heads?

Recently, I had an opportunity to buy any helmet in the shop at half price, due to crash replacement. I tried on everything, even a couple over $200, including the Ionos.
I settled on a Specialized $40 helmet, because it fit "invisibly." I paid a total of $21.30. I can feel air going thru it, and it just fits superbly.

Catlike recently passed US CPSC certification tests and will sold in the USA beginning this July, according to their US distributor. From what I understand some design modifications were necessary so there will be US models that differ somewhat from the European models, like what Limar does with their "world's lightest helmet."

I've got Bell Sweep, Giro Atmos and CatLike Whisper helmets. By a good bit, the CatLike is the most comfortable and has the best ventilation of the lot. You can't buy CatLikes in the U.S. but they are available from online folks in the UK. Also, the CatLike gets comments on every group ride, if that matters to you.

My Giro Ionos just arrived this afternoon. My LBS gave me a steep discount on it as a thank you for buying my Madone from them. I'm not sure I could have justified the price without the discount but with my past autosport helmets price is secondary to protection. It's got a surprisingly large range of adjustment so getting it to fit just right was a bit of trial and error but they worked with me to make sure I was happy with it.
