But none of the pages I saw had any detailed information. Anybody know anything about this model?
First 4 digits/letters of the serial number should provide a clue.

That's definitely the 1989 model. MSRP of $440 - $480US. 32.3 lbs in 18" frame size. Taiwanese manufactured Tange MTB frame. OEM conponents were SunTour XCD derailleurs, SR XCE crankset, Dia-Compe 993 rear U-brake with XCE cantilever on the front and Araya RX-7 rims laced to Jo-Yu hubs. The one at Coco's has been converted from Accushift to SIS, with new derailleurs, shifter, handlebar, crankset and presumably a freewheel. Attached image is OEM configuration.

Thanks T-Mar. I just checked the serial number and it starts with T8904.

This came to us missing a lot of parts, so yes I added the other items. I volunteer at a charity shop so we are not in a position to restore, but I will try to do no harm in building it.

Yes, that confirms what I previously stated, as that's a Taiwanese frame from April 1989.

Hello Trance,
The wheels are standard red 2007 Fulcrum racing zero's with wide anodized aluminum spokes. They were OK wheels looking back, but nothing special except for the color.
Happy trails.

My GT Backwoods Mountain Bike.
Love the ride and the classic looks.
A few of the components:
- Rare twisted spoke built Araya wheels size 26"
- Rock shox front suspension fork
- Shimano STX Caliper Brakes
- Shimano STX Derailleurs and Crankset
- Redline pedals
- Bontrager Handlebars

thanks for reviving. Missed this. I have the same gt, originally got it for the parts and instantly fell in love with the frame. Love seeing what others have done with them. 😁

Just picked this 1995 Pantera up, so sorry about the flat front tire. Should clean up nicely and be a fun ride. I love how they believed in such flattened out stems back in those days.

Picked this up for free several weeks ago- I think it's a 1996 (color is a blueish green (maybe dark teal?) satin finish).
Looks like it's all original, like new except for a few paint scratches and a little corrosion on the stem.

Here's mine...

95 or 96 Karakoram. It came into the co-op without a seatpost. I swapped out the original straight bars for some no-name aluminum North Roads that were in the bin-o'-bars. Slid some bar-ends onto them for an into-the-wind position, since I live right on the coast, so there's always a quartering headwind. Eventually I swapped the B.17 and Carradice Lowsaddle Longflap from my '85 League Fuji, since the GT is my utility bike, and will get more miles for the near future. Also changed the pedals from the MKS quills from the parts box to Odyssey Grandstand V2s. A big win for my big feet.

Long-term plan is for a black Brooks Flyer, Carradice Camper Longflap, some gearing changes, and probably drop bars, but for now, me likey.

As first built, with mostly parts from my box-o'-bike-stuff:

Brooks & Carradice:

It rides really nice.
