Sancinito - Columbus Max

As explained to me when I bought it almost 20 years ago, components installed once for a bike show and then disassembled, so it is essentially NOS. Bottom bracket shell stamped 60cm.

Beautiful!
New steel in old style lugged frame even with chrome socks.
Hard to value given scarcity? but expect a nice price like a sought after Derosa or Merckx??

Very nice frame, but a bit lacking in the paint and decals department, which also points out it being a not very recognized brand.
As noted already, this will be a bit hard to put a market value on, as it won't appeal instantly to many people, as everyone in this quality category is always just looking for Colnagos, Pinarellos, Masis and De Rosas. But there are some people that do look for these unusual bikes. You just have to find them so you can get the best money for it. I think $400.00 is a good starting point, considering the nice lugged details and the premium quality tubing plus it being NOS condition.....

Can you tell us what you paid 20 years ago and how that compared to the offerings from Colnago, Masi, Derosa or Cinelli? This would really help with the valuation IMO and its more scarce but not sought after like the famous makers.

All I know about this bike is what I have read online. If you were to offer it to me for $500 I'd be the happiest guy around. Obviously I think you could get a lot more from the right buyer.

Fantastic classic race frame in great condition.

Italian steel frame building history is full of small and individual builders who built a few frames under their own name and many more as contract builders for bigger marques. In that respect their quality was often as good as at least Colnago, Pinarello and Masi and their prices were similar - they just sold in much lower numbers to an audience who wanted something a little different rather than something a little cheaper.

Sancineto is not a marque that I have a connection to, but there are several comparable builders for which I’d pay USD1000-1500 for comparable frames in similar near NOS condition. They just need to be exactly what I’m after in style, size and colour. I’m sure your frame will be the same to someone else who is prepared to wait.

I’m well aware of the recent downturn in the C&V market, especially for used/worn/tired once-popular and common marques for which there is an ever-increasing supply. I don’t quite believe there is a corresponding glut of small builder near-NOS frames and the market just needs time to differentiate the two a little better.

Unless forced to sell, I’d list it here and elsewhere in that range and wait things out.

Is that a crack next to the seat binder bolt (or just a scratch?).

That is a beaut. If I had a steady hand, I'd be tempted to line the lugs with gold paint to really complete the look the socks give it. Hard to value due to lack of comparisons, but more than I could afford.

If it helps, I just paid 750 for one of these from an overseas seller I have dealt with in the past. Full bike but with a lower end Campagnolo Mirage build and what looks like bad chrome on the chain stays. I put value in quality low volume brands like this though. I'll also say this bike was on EBAY for more money. I had bought from the guy before so we worked a deal outside of Ebay which saved money. Another consideration though was that it was on Ebay for awhile with no takers. The bike is in transit to me so I can't really speak to it's true value or quality until I see it. In other words, I don't know if I made a good buy or not but the rep of the brand from what little I found made it desirable to me.

Based solely on what I see in your pictures above I would easily spend $400-$500 on it if it was in my size. To be honest when I first saw this I was sorry that it was a 60cm as the paint scheme is more attractive to me than the one I am getting. I've got some gold Shamal wheels that would be the cat's meow on that one. Good like with whatever you decide.

Unqualified to opine on value, just note that's a lovely and unique frame. Building it up would be a fun project, if paralyzing WRT picking components.

That is magnificent, it's indescribably beautiful...it reminds me of the fourth of July.

That would look so nice next to my Proto

If you follow the link (thanks, I had not seen it), that is my white frame in the photo…I also own the red Masi…I put that photo on the internet years ago. The Masi frame is also NOS…Columbus SLX-SP. I’ll post some good photos of it next.

So just to update a bit. Mine arrived today and I just spent the past couple of hours going over it. Even with the honest wear on if from use and dull paint I'm happy with what I paid. There chrome was actually pretty good and cleaned right up. The first round of hand polishing the paint has brought out a pretty good shine, enough to say it must have had a good paint job from the factory. I guess the real test will be in how it rides. Everything I've seen so far tells me these frames were made by someone who cared about the quality of their build.

I have the same one, same size, 1997, with flashy Carlo Dossena paint, honestly prefer a simpler paint scheme, I'd do a 1-for-1 swap
