I, being a Texan, have historically been a complete wuss when it comes to cold weather. This year, however, with the right gear, I've been comfortable right down to freezing temps. After a short ride right at freezing on Thursday, I was out of town all weekend and then it was wet/raining the past couple of days and below 40. I decided to wait until today when it was nice and clear.

Then I checked the weather this morning. Windchill of 16 degrees and wind gusts up to 25 mph.

Yeah, rollers are at the top of my Christmas list.

So what is your cutoff point? Until your toes freeze?

45 degrees F. If it's sunny. December is always my worst month as I am in denial. By January I have accepted it is cold and and get out more.

My fear of black ice.. About 35 degrees.. No tires with studds adorn my bike... But, then where we live the cold - is not a problem. Or at least no more than once every five years or so..

I can do the teens if it is sunny and about 20 at night. As long as the streets are is reasonably good shape I'm good. Yesterday was 8F and with a 'feels like' of -8F - that's too cold. It'll probably be about 15F when I take my son snow biking down at the bike path in a couple hours and we'll probably be good for about 75 minutes or so.

All that being said, we're moving back to Sacramento in late-January and I can't wait for the warmer (and snow-free!) weather.

Same here, I'll ride till I have to start worrying about icy roads, so usually around mid 30's.

My lack of riding is more due to the lack of daylight than the temperature. I'm still out on the weekends down to about 20*F.

I've been out in 17F this year.

Right now it's 9F going down to -4F or so tonight. If I can squeeze it in I'm taking the hardtail out for a spin tonight. I'll let you know what 0F feels like. The wind might be howling yet so if visibility is an issue I won't head out.

And this morning we were hit with snow and freezing rain, so I've pretty much called it a season. For the next month or two, it'll be too dark & slippery out there to take any chances.

I have yet to run into temps that have forced me to stay inside.

I am from sunny San Diego but after living for a few years in far norcal I have HTFU a little bit.

If road conditions are OK then I'll ride in just about anything. Single digits or sub 20 and high winds are miserable even with the right gear...but in Chicago that usually doesn't happen unless the roads are also in horrible shape.

With the right gear you can ride in just about any conditions. When I lived in El Paso I thought I was cool when I bought arm warmers and a pair of tights. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I used to ride when the temps were in the high 20's, but I've smartened up and now that I live in Northern CA.... If it's much below 50 out I'm riding the trainer instead. I don't like the cold.

My threshold gets progressively colder as the temps drop and I get desperate to ride. So right now, I'm saying 32. In a month, I might be down to 20 or 25.

0F. Coldest this year is 15F so far.
Perhaps I will make it into negative temps later this year.

I've gone XC skiing at -25°C. So if the roads are clear of snow I'd say that, they usually are not. Coldest I've ever gone out on a road bike was -10°C for a hour.

Mine is about 30F when I leave the house. I know I'm a wimp, but I don't have as much winter gear so I have to make due with what I have.

-20C in good conditions. Any colder and I set up the rollers or trainer in the garage.

Yesterday was the coldest day so far this year. 7f with 10-12mph wind. Windchill -10f. Studded Nokians on a Tricross. Took an hour to go 9 miles in 3-5 inches of new snow over frozen chocolate mousse and oatmeal snow on the roads.

Generally in the teens. I can ride for only so long before my fee are just too numb. I have never found booties or Sidi winer shoes, etc to keep them warm for much more than one hour in that temp. I may try some of those hand warming gels in the shoes to see if that works.
