Converting MTB to cruiser. Can it be this simple?
I'm not in to riding the exciting trails anymore so I'm hoping to convert my cannondale trail 4 to something closer to a cruiser. Can I simply drop the seat height, replace my seat with a well padded comfort seat, and then switch out the grips for some ergon gp3's? I'd hate to ditch a decent bike just to buy a cruiser for upright, comfortable cruising.

put some cruiser bars on it. lowering the seat will make pedaling inefficient and uncomfortable rising bars will be better.

In particular look at swept back bars like some pictured here. That will move your arms back a bit and allow you to sit more upright. https://www.blueheronbikesberkeley.c...handlebar-post

I added brush horns to the ends of my bar and tightened them in a more upright position so that when my back starts aching on a long pavement ride, I just sit up and grab the horns for comfort. The ones I have mounted clear into the end of the handlebars and have more of an angle then the link here, but you'll get the idea. Good luck.

Individuals seem to react differently to dropping their seat from the "optimal height". My wife is sensitive to about 1/4", maybe less - it has to be perfect, then we never move it, while I can drop the seat a couple of inches with no problem other than I know it's less efficient. I know that it should induce problems with my knees, but it doesn't. So if I don't need to be efficient, I ride with the seat lowered at times.
