1982 Trek 950 worth or 957?

1982 Trek 950 worth or 957?
I am helping my younger brother in law sell a bike that after looking it up (serial number 017488) I believe it is a 1982 trek 950 but I'm confused. Is that just the frame model, and then the 957 or 959 is with components? Because we are not sure exactly what it is. Any help would be appreciated as well as how much it is worth??

Frameset is a 950; 957 would've been Campagnolo equipped, 959 would've been Dura Ace equipment. The subject bike has a fruit salad of components, which aren't worth much. The frameset, if clean and free of damage, should be bring in the neighborhood of $350-400.
The frameset was available for sale by itself, to be built up as the buyer chose. This is likely how this bike started life.

Depends on how much time you want to invest; but yes, financially it would make more sense to sell the frameset separate from the parts. Ebay would net you the most, but beware of the fees, and you have to be able to package it efficiently.

My brother-in-law that is selling it has much more time than money since he is a broke college student so I think he would be fine with that but how difficult is it to take off all the components? We have never done that before do you need any special tools?

Frankly I'd try my luck on Craigs list first before trying to do this online. You guys are newbies and there are ways this can go wrong. CL is easy peasy if you find the right buyer.

If you do try CL, stick to your price and don't let anyone low ball you. Be prepared...........Frankly, I would've bought it from your Marketplace ad and never looked back.
