Di2 Battery Level issue

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Di2 Battery Level issue

My Di2 battery shows 100% charged on my Garmin screen (after 4-5 rides I charged it) then I got the "low Di2 battery" message on the screen. Is it some kind of a glitch? Has anyone experienced such a thing? How often do you guys charge your Di2s? Thank you!

Something has to be up, no way 4-5 rides would drain the battery, unless they were all double centuries in the hills where you were shifting all the time.

Is it just the Garmin telling you it's low? or have you manually checked the junction box or shimano app?

This is the first step. Isolate the problem. Rule out the Garmin.

Press the left shifter and what does the A junction tell you?
  • Solid green for 2 seconds = 76% to 100% charged
  • Flash green five times = 51% to 75% charged
  • Solid red for 2 seconds = 26% to 50% charged
  • Flash red five times = 1% to 25% charged

If the A junction agrees with the garmin then check for anything which might be draining the battery. Misadjusted rear derailleur or leaning the bike against something which presses the shifter can cause the battery to drain.

Most likely Garmin being Garmin. When I was using an Edge1000, pretty much every other ride I'd get the low Di2 battery warning, no matter what the actual charge state from Di2 was../..read either from Di2 itself, or read from Garmin's on Gears data field.

In theory it was a nice feature--in practice that charge state warning never worked.

+1

As a practical matter, reading battery levels over wireless protocols is horrible.

My Polar GPS will say, "Speed sensor battery 30% charged" immediately after installing a new battery. Three months later it might say the speed sensor is 50% charged.

I ignore it and change the batteries when I do my smoke detectors.

I should've before I posted this but was just curious about others' experience. Will do when I get home tonight.

Btw is it possible to see the battery level on the E-tube app? I looked at it briefly other day but didn't see anything. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the instructions. Good stuff!

Also thanks to everybody else for comments, glad to see I'm not alone!

I have a G820 and DA DI2 and the Garmin is always spot on. The old woman has G820 and Ultegra DI2 and hers is accurate also.

My Garmin 820's been telling me my power meter battery is low for the last 6 months.....but it appears to record power accurately.

Interesting as my Edge 1000 seemingly and accurately displays my Di2 charge level.

My system is at 80% currently and according to the Garmin. When it hits 70 I’ll check what the A junction LED’s tell me.
