The ultimate Banana Peel Gag, courtesy of Woody Allen's "Sleeper". The hilarity begins @ 35 seconds:

You bet! Very dangerous. Fortunately, I've never run over a banana peel while riding on a banana seat. Clearly that would be certain doom.

It's known as the Kryptonian Villain Maneuver.

Seldom seen and they usually eliminate the witnesses.

It was way too obvious for it to be a serious threat, so I think it was actually kind of a funny joke.

It got me wondering, what would've happened if I had run over a banana peel? Would I have slipped? Are they really as slippery as they are in the slapstick bits? Do people walking ever actually slip on one? Where does the cliche come from?
I see chimps riding bikes quite often, maybe they are the culprits?

In my state, they give chimps driver's licenses, so they mostly drive.

I didn't see any photos of that, but lots of ones of them on mini bikes, which were all the rage among kids back in the 60's and 70's.

Geez, I don't even wanna know what they did to those poor chimps to get them to act. I think as viewers of the show, we are both accessories to cruelty to animals. I hope the statute of limitations has run out by now.

I think the trainer was supposed to be pretty good to them. I think there's a practical limitation to how mean you can be to a chimp because of their ability to, you know, rip your face off.

Mr. Ed was the one they were obviously torturing. What the hell did they put in his mouth?

Mr. Ed got a string and peanut butter. Not sure if that counts as torture or not.
