Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Canyon Cockpit Confusion CP10 vs H36

Hi!
Yesterday I unboxed my new Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8.0 2019. When I couldn’t mount my ordered Garmin Mount I discovered that they mounted the wrong cockpit on the bike, I think.
On the website it says the bike should be equipped with a CP10 Aerocockpit, but I have a H36 mounted.
Question is now which is better of the two cockpits? Have I been lucky or should I complain?
I am struggling to find much information about the CP10 cockpit.

Hope someone know the difference between the two and which is lighter/faster/better

/Jens

yes, but what I linked is also 2019 and doesn't indicate a CP cockpit
I think you got last year's model cockpit.. not that it's probably any worse, but I'd contact Canyon.. you should get some sort of recompense -- at the very least for a garmin mount that doesn't work.

Oh you could be right, but I am pretty sure I got the new one since everything else seems alright, color, size and so on. They use the H36 cockpit on their new aero bikes. That’s why I am wondering if they actually upgraded me or I should complain.

yea that's a problem with direct selling bikes like that (no dealer-shop).. they want you to send it back, to fix that ?
or can you just buy another stem at a shop?

I haven’t talked to them yet. I am trying to find out which of the two cockpits I want to have. That’s why I am asking here to see if anyone know the difference.

It is carbon fiber handlebar and stem in one piece.. so a new one would be 400€

More than 2

Well don't go into formula one race cars, its even more expensive..

buy what fits sell what does not

eBay will find someone to buy your '400€' bar set , though Auction bidding may not give you all of that ..

I'd suggest a separate bar and stem so the stem length& angle, is an unrestricted choice..

as is the many varieties of bar shapes ...

...

H36 is the current cockpit, that is also what my 2018 Ultimate has
Great setup, with plenty of room to sprint in the drops

The H36, from a little search, appears like it came out in 2015/2016. The CP10 started appearing I think only last year, and indeed it's does show in the spec for the OP's bike on Canyon's site. It wouldn't surprise me if manufacturer is trying to use up parts, but I'd still suggest OP contact them to let them know their website is wrong.

Thank you for the comments guys! After some more research I found that the H36 which I have weights 400g while the CP10 is only 320g.
But, the H36 is on Canyons latest 10k€ aero bike and also Rafael Valls Canyon Ultimate 2019 World Tour Pro bike I can see. Wonder why?

Hmm, maybe the H36 is more aero? They look very similar to me.

Anyway, 80 grams is pretty significant when it comes to high end components. I would ask for a change, if they gave you the wrong one that is.

Is it worth a lot of hassle for less than 2 ounces of weight savings?

If you were supposed to get it and still want it, I would contact them and have them exchange it.

I'd say that even if he doesn't care one way or the other, he should still contact them and let them know their spec pages are wrong.

So what is the deal with these integrated stem / handlebars, I've always wondered: When you buy the bike, do you get the option of different "stem" lengths? How does that work if you don't have the fit dialed in perfectly yet (especially with an online brand like Canyon)? If it is a new bike, the fit might take some time to get dialed in, and stem length is an important part of that.

I like the look of an integrated handlebar and stem, but I'd hate to lose the flexibility of changing stem lengths personally. Even as you get fitter or come back from an injury, you might want to flip the stem / change stem slightly.

Canyon has had many problems with their website.

Photo's of mountain bike parts on road bike pages, descriptions for one bike on another bike's pages, incorrect specs, wrong prices, etc.

It was to the point of being comical just after their US launch but I guess they haven't straightened out all the issues.

You need to be sure what your fit is going to be. Most online manufacturers will have a 30 day exchange policy for components that affect fit. Not sure if Canyon has one or how long it would be.

Hu guys! So i ended up asking canyon Denmark about the difference between the CP10 and H36 cockpits they told me the cockpits are were similar but with CP10 being a little lighter but H36 considerably stiffer which also might be why they use H36 in the world tour.

Then he told me that the CP10 was not available anymore which is why they have started to ship the ultimate and other models with the H36, a floating transition he said, and therefore the homepage isn’t fully updated yet. Guess they have had problems with the CP10?

So I am keeping my H36 and i am happy about it since I am 94kg and can feel the H36 flexing so wouldn’t be comfortable using a less stiff cockpit. They also send me a new Garmin mount without any discussion.

To those who asked you can those your cockpit size when ordering if you write a comment in the order. If it doesn’t fit you anyway, within 30days you can order a different cockpit halfprice and get the money back when they receive the “old” cockpit

Thank you for your comments
