Jockey wheels for Fuji Gran Tourer

I have a 1970s Fuji Gran Tourer that needs new jockey wheels. They’re the bushing type but are so worn they don’t spin very freely which I’m guessing is causing drag.

Should I get the sealed bearing jockey wheels from Velo-Orange or the bushing style Shimano 6mm conversion jockey wheels from Love City Cycles?

Also do you tend to use chain oil or bike grease for your jockey wheels? Whenever I use grease they don’t spin freely at all.

Thanks!

For bushing type, I just pull them apart, clean and oil upon reassembly. If I’m feeling lazy I’ll leave installed and flood the pulleys with wd40. That will almost always penetrate. Some have bearings, I grease those.

Replacements, both of what you contemplate should be fine, as long as you get ones of correct spec. Some may have a different tooth count, pin diameter, or thickness.

On an old Fuji it is likely a SunTour RD and pulleys are hard to find. If the teeth are not cracked or too worn clean and grease.

You probably need 10T ones. The aluminum sealed bearing versions work great.
But I prefer the classic look of the plastic black types. On Amazon, you can find Shimano pulleys for around $9.

I'm a sucker for red Bullseye pulleys on friction or Accushift 6 stuff.

As already mentioned you need to count the number of teeth.
But I've replaced the jockeys on a SunTour Cyclone GT 2 with BBB Rollerboys sealed bearings.
They look the same as the original (ie black) and would also fit VX GT etc.

Here's my thread about it: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...-bdp-01-a.html

Sealed bearing top, SunTour original bottom
