Yes, Ed said he works with a decal supplier in North Carolina, he says best in the business. I checked it out and that supplier only works with paint shops and bike restorers as an effort to maintain authenticity and prevent forgeries. For the DIY route, I'll buy from Velocals, even though the font is ever so slightly different.

When I got a ratted-out Mondia frame, I went about prepping it for paint by sanding it down smooth, taped-off the areas that called for masking & bought a rattle can of SEM Hi-Build Primer Surfacer (#42013) from an auto paint store.
Dries fast & fills great! Gave it a few coats, sanding smooth in-between coats till I thought it was ready for the finish coats.
SEM 42013 Grey High Build Primer - 16 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PKX16A..._PwZcGb0XKHCQ0
Instead of finalizing the finish coats myself, I brought the frame/fork to a body shop where he completed the painting.for me.
In the end, it came out great & only charged me a $100. IIRC, the color was a Suburu car color H5 ?

I was mounting some 35mm Gravelkings for a different bike and thought, “hmmm...”
Here is a test fit on the ‘traut with the wheel all the way back in the dropout. This is tight, but it works, and 32mm would be even better. I was planning on 28s, but may go fatter. Anyway, the build is a ways off...

The bikes came in Burgundy metallic and a dark blue metallic - like your green not a George Barris metallic at all.
I also think a anthracite metallic too.

Here it is, fresh from being bead blasted. I’ll take better pics a bit later once I clean it, but you can see the tidy brazing and efficient use of brass. Also a little detail of the pitting from the rust.

I thought it might be interesting to see pics in the bright evening sun following a wipe down with rubbing alcohol. The brass really pops.
The goal this weekend is more clean up and to lay down the self-etching primer.
Enjoy!

Get some primer on quickly. Bare frame will start to rust a day or two after bead blasting. Use an automotive etching primer. I also used a 2 part clear coat in a rattle can. You have activate the can then shake to mix the resin and part 2 for 5 minutes. You then have a short time to spray. Want another coat? New can.

And check out what revealed itself on a few tubes, the top tube, down tube, and seat stays.

Here is the color coat, but it needs some work. Two coats of primer went on well and wet sanded smooth, but the color coat — gloss hunter green — turned to orange peel immediately, even though I used the same technique. I dunno, I’ll have to wet sand, and I think I’ll try a coat of brushed-on gloss green next, after this coat cures. I was looking forward to being done with this stage, but haste makes waste, I guess. Ah well.
The color is nice, but…
Looks like the outside of an avocado…
This eyelet actually looks pretty nice — too bad the rest of the frame is poo.

After a couple of rounds of wet sanding and further color coats, here is where it stands. I’d probably call this paint job a 2-3 out of 10, but I think I might be allergic to the paint, so the project is done for now. My objective was to protect the frame and make it presentable with something that could be easily removed later, so mission accomplished, I think.
I’ll throw some parts on it after some curing, then likely get it powder coated next season if it lives up to expectations. I don’t think I’ll bother painting another frame — I just don’t have the patience, the space, or the will to use the enhanced PPE I apparently need — but this has been a fun project nevertheless.
Or maybe it doesn’t look too bad baking there in the sun. Maybe 4 out of 10.

When I bought decals, the full matching set came in triplicate, so I figured why not use one set on this mediocre paint job…
Actually turned out ok for a ten-foot looker!
