Will a tubus rack create enough heel clearance on my cross bike?

Here are the measurements for my frame:

Chainstay: 425mm
BB-drop: 70mm
Seat-angle: 73
Crank-arm: 170mm

Would it be possible to determine whether or not a tubus rack will fit a bike with those measurements? I wear euro size 45 shoes. I'm considering the cosmo model to be precise, possibly logo classic.

Just a guess, but I think you will be OK. My 59 cm CX bike has 415 mm chainstays, and I don't have issues with heel strike. I wear size 44 shoes, 175mm crank, Tubus Cargo Classic Rack, and Ortlieb Backroller Classics.

Talk to Wayne at TheTouringStore.com, Ortlieb Panniers & Packs, Tubus Racks, Lone Peak Packs about which Tubus rear racks provide the best heel clearance. He is knowledgeable, and should be able to help you.

I'll second Doug64, call Wayne at The Touring Store. He probably knows more stuff about the racks than Tubus does.

As already mentioned, Wayne at thetouringstore.com should be able to tell you if that rack will have enough clearance. He also sells adapters that would let you position any rack further back.

For comparison, I have Tubus Cargo racks on two different touring bikes with 44-45 cm stays and Euro size 46 shoes, and have no heel strike at all with Ortlieb Classic Roller panniers. However, I did have some heel strike issues when I tried a rear rack and Ortlieb panniers on my Ritchey cyclocross bike with 42.5 cm stays.

It depends on the pannier, does it have adjustable mounting brackets, etc. A friend of mine had to drill out the rivets on his panniers that held the non-adjustable hooks so that he could move them.

If heel strike is an issue, look for panniers with a heel-cutout profile, rather than square-shaped.
Hell strike tends to more pannier related than rack-related.

in addition to buying the racks themselves There are additional Mounting parts kits .

Like : tubus - Fußverlängerung Hinterradträger or tubus - Schnellspanner-Adapter HR-Träger

See Products> accessories, Rear Carrier > tubus - Home

Ortlieb Rear Panniers get the Benefit of the top Rail adjustable Hooks - moved forward , and thus the panniers moved back.

I Have the Logo Classic Rack, & Back Roller Panniers
