New tire day. Finally wore out the Gravel King 38 on the back of the Davidson. It had seen a bunch of hard miles, both pavement and gravel.

The Lygie gets some time in the light. Here I put some black Dura Ace 120/100 hubs on black ukai rims. I have not tried these out yet, they just did not have the right look I wanted on the silver frame. They look better here but still not great.
I installed Campy band clamp shifters, but they are shot. The pivot post for the front has lost its grip on the peen, so it tightens and loosens upon shifts. It works still but I have to maintain the 'd' screw. The clunky Regina chain shifts good, or better than I thought they would. I like cranks' the ring guard, and the ramp in the middle is a new thing for me as well.
This was purchased with 27" high flange Campy that have floated to another. The brakes are Dura Ace, a drop hanger bolt has been added to compensate the reach factor. The brake levers are newer Campy. A B-15 Brooks is the saddle. The stem is SR Royal with eagle crested SR Custom bars. I'm not a fan of the bars but they do look right for the Lygie. I'll cable up the brakes and it will be ready for testing.

What am i polishing??
Okay, need a little help here. I was removing some rust, and now I have this chrome metal and dark metal. What in the world is what here…sorry new to this. Is the black part steel I should keep polishing? Is it rust? I feel like there may be a chrome coating I’m removing to expose more of the dark metal? Thanks.

Hmm ... Just my 2 cents . First the black is discolored bear metal , IMO . I would carefully sand with a Dremel 80 grit disk to get the big pitting off , then de rust it with a de rust gel . Then paint in a rust neutralizing primer . Level it up with regular primer , and then paint your color .

Continuing my build of an SWorks SL8 with Dura Ace Di2. Finally got the drive train parts in and connected on my work bench...battery charging and shifters/derailleurs working as they should.
Having a lot of 'fun'...not really...figuring out how much of the seat tube will have to be cut and holes drilled to attach the battery holder 'fiddly bit'...the seat post is narrow and the battery does not slide inside so Spesh designed this nifty little hanger that has two arms that clicks into place inside the seat post. The battery 'hangs' from this part and just sits inside the seat tube...BUT...the seat tube narrows two thirds of the way down towards the der. hanger and it also has the bottle cage mounts inside which prevents the battery from going deeper into the seat tube. Not really a big deal...UNLESS...you are on a small frame which is around your correct size then there may be a problem as you may have to cut quite a bit off the seat post in order for the battery to fit...SRAM has a huge advantage over Shimano on battery fitment/location and size...Fortunately the frame I'm working on is a 54cm so I'll have room for the battery and the cut seat post but drilling the holes is a pain in the ass. It requires precise measurement. Because I'm trimming a good bit off the seat post I'm able to measure and cut more than once for practice and a precise cut and alignment. I'm also a bit concerned that the battery may tap the sides of the seat post when ridden over less than smooth surfaces and there is not a lot of room for some sort of cushioning. I'm thinking a bit of butyl tube at the base of the battery to snug it up a bit and cushion any noise will do the trick or perhaps a layer of electrical tape...depends on how much or little room there is.
All in all the build is going well and would have been finished but for the lack of a couple of parts we are waiting for any a lovely vacation I've just returned from.

The Rossin is chain and cables away from being completed. Shimano should be shot for not putting adjustable pad holders on the DA 7700 brakes, all is ok with a set of Swiss Stop pads and holders.

Stripped down a sad Hardrock from the scrap yard. Just a few salvageable bits for the Indexed Suntour box, but the frame may get a second life as a single speed beach bike.

Since I'm replacing the tires on my mtb I decided to true the wheels. Fell on the bike while riding with the grandson and the wheels show a little lateral movement. Removed the tires and tubes, and trued them both.

This truly took hours and was one of the most frustrating and tedious bike projects I have done in a long time (and I build wheels, so that's saying a lot).

While browsing the bike smorgasboard at the Bike Exchange last week I came upon a couple of Diamond back Accents, one yellow and this one a beutiful blue/green. I was told that neither was "good" enough to fix up and sell but I just couldn't let the blue/green one go without playing with it. It is going to be donated out and I thought "someone is going to get a REALLY nice custom bike when I'm done".
My work consisted mostly of cleaning and putting new tires and cables on it. I looked at the tires we had on hand and decided on these cruiser white walls. I also changed out the blue bars for aluminum ones with an inch more rise than stock and swapped the black cables for white. I noticed that although the bike had a 7 speed index shifter, someone had installed a 6 speed freewheel so that was replacd with a 7 speed hyperglide clone. I think old rigid frame mtn bikes like this make great city cruisers and utility bikes. Hopefully the person that gets this one will cherish it.
One feature somewhat unique are the braze on's on the front forks for a rack . This would make this bike able to mount front paniers as well as a rear rack.

The sad thing is the paint is in decent shape and and the decals are complete (exception being the Columbus sticker) with nice patina. But it's so very Pepto-Bismol pearl pink and in direct sunlight it looks like salmon that's gone bad, it could be a prop for the Barbie movie. I don't have a ton of money in it (yet). Pretty sure this one is going to be painted black, decaled as original or...
I have pinned the year down to 1982 late or 1983 early and the model is a Colnago Super Specialismo with SL tubing, not a SLX Superissimo. If I have screwed up the ID on this bike please chime in, I'm a Colnago virgin.

Yesterday, a family at the church said they needed an inexpensive cruiser for a teenage exchange student. Since the bike will be used in places prone to theft, I figured a less-shiny one would be a better fit. Got an old Huffy frame and started building, but realized the seatpost was seized. As it's a simple steel vs. steel problem, I employed a few minutes of Liquid Wrench, a pipe wrench, and my medium-sized "persuasion device".
Some serious torque was applied, and with a satisfying "thoonk" the seatpost decided to cooperate. Now on to the rest of the build...

I was able to finish that singlespeed cruiser this morning. It ain't the prettiest, but it works. Now time to deliver it to the family at church, take a break from wrenching for an, ahem, "medical procedure", and move on to new disasters over the weekend.

Seems to have a hop
Continuing to discover things I don't know anymore how to do, changed spoke direction at least thrice lacing, and very nearly have lighter g. spokes on drive side. Mission was only to prepare a 7-speed spacing wheel because I didn't feel like overhauling my go-to wheel-hub for that spacing. Worst failure in multitasking is trying to listen to podcasts while reading e.g. this site.
