Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

need advice on tires

i want to change out my bontrager race x tires. i want something that has very little rolling resistence, that is my 1st objective. 2nd i dont take turns to crazy so that isnt a big deal. 3rd i do have some nice climbs to deal with as well so i need something good at going uphill. lastly i need somthing that is able to roll over some debris and not have to blow up tubes. the bontys arent good at all going over glass and small road gravel.

thanks,
Steve

my lbs sells gommitilla, michellens, and victorrias(< i think that is the name) so are any of these gonna be good?

I recently got these:

Conti's

I was a little weary of spending that much, but I really, really like them. They seem to jump forward on climbs. Now granted, I was coming off some pretty crappy stock hutchinson's so my experience is kinda limited.

I've got like 200 miles on them and haven't had a flat (next ride, I know).

This has been rehashed to the Nth degree already, and it's a basically useless question anyway, because this is the response the OP will get:

Poster #1 - "I like Conti's."

Poster #2 - "Oh yeah, well I think Michelin's are the tits."

Poster #3 - "Vittoria's are the best I've used."

Poster #4 - "Nope. Panaracer's are da bomb."

Poster #5 - "You're all nuts! The best road tires are Vredestein's."

Insert your fave: Hutchinson, Maxxis, Ritchey, Veloflex, Kenda, Schwalbe, etc. and so on. You're going to get as many claims that "_____ is the greatest" as you have tire choices to pick from.

So HERE'S what you do:

1. Pick something that you think looks like a reasonable design at reasonable cost.

2. Ride the damned thing.

3. When it falls apart or wears out or blows up, pick a different brand/model.

4. Do this until you find the one that works best for you, then buy a bunch of them when they're on sale.

5. To hell with what everyone else uses.

Stevo, have you tried Bontrager Race Light hardcases with or without the goo in the tubes? I have the goo in mine, and before you start talking about race weight let me tell you that I would much rather add some weight to the bike than have a bad flat. That said, these tires work well for turning and such, roll well, and I am yet to get a flat through the triple kevlar and the goo in the tubes. Our area has goat heads or more commonly called tack weeds. Flats are common in our area. I see guys rolling expensive road bikes down the bike path. Why? because they did not flat proof their tubes. Well it won't happen to me with my Bontrager Hardcases and goo.

steve.. check out GP Attacks... the front is like 22mm and the rear is like 23mm. they are by far the lightest tires out there. it'll run you about $100 or so at your lbs. comes as a set for both front and rear.
