In the UK, I believe, they are called bum bags, which sounds decidedly un-hip.

Any pictures? I'm interested in these Topeak bags too but I need something narrow and small because my bikes mostly have external shift cables.

As mentioned already, dont give up on the handlebar bag. They're ideal for a semi-bulky but lighter load like a sammich or two, and won't affect handling at all ( I started using a small one last year).
but, instead of multiple sandwiches, why not just take a couple granola or PowerBars/ gels, or similar? I used to do long multi-county rides, and that would be plenty.,and definitely stores comfortably in a jersey pocket.
