IKR. It's probably the one thing that will keep me working until at least age 60. I have such good coverage through work (no referrals or pre-authorizations needed, at least for common things like MRIs, relatively low deductible of $1,350, max out-of-pocket of $6,000 year), and because of my unique situation I don't have to contribute to the cost. That's a hard thing to walk away from.
We have crappy insurance, 5K per person deductible, and I pay $30,000/year for it. That's family coverage so includes me, mrs datlas, and the two kids. The only "benefit" I have is that since it's through work I pay with pre-tax dollars. Compared to that, medicare is a bargain and the coverage is not bad TBH.

I’ e Gone to the dark side of coffee. Nespresso. Pricey but consistently excellent. It takes a little work to find the varieties you like, but then it is a pleasure. I buy espresso, double espresso, luongo (sort of an Anericano) and American style like strong drip. It is all frothy.

I would not walk away from that until 65/Medicare if I were you.

I don't want to work until 65, but I may have to.
Agree that Medicare is a good deal. When I was managing my mom's affairs I would see the bills. One time she spent a week in the hospital. Her end was only something like $500.

That used to annoy me so much BITD when I'd arrive at work 7am and the wife was just waking up. I used to think to myself, "see, and they wonder why women live longer than men".

What a sweetheart! I know, likely not in actions, but what a doll.
Indy's registered middle names are "Slightly Wicked". Jeez she was a pita. Anything that wasn't bolted down was hauled into the backyard, through the doggie door. Dog beds, rugs, pillows, shoes. She wasn't destructive, just industrious.

I'm happy with drip, too. I like Starbuck's Pike's Peak or LaVazza's Gran Selecione.

We're watching Trapped right now. Hopefully its portrayal of the sweet Scandinavian lifestyle will convince the little lady that we need to move to one of those countries.

Interesting though. Her family lived in a suburb. The house was pretty small but efficiently designed so that I never felt cramped. Dad was a basically a Phys-Ed teacher and mom was an admin assistant. Standard of living with to kids seemed comfortable. Definitely not rich. They even had a sauna in their house.

I spent the holidays in Gothenberg, Sweden in '88-'89 chasing the fantasy of keeping alive the summer relationship I had with a au pair. The winter was dark and gloomy. And because we were near the coast, it was damp.

The Atlantic Ocean at law school happened. She certainly wasn't going to leave that great health care system behind.
I used to joke that she was really good looking but that upon visiting her I was disappointed to discover that she was only average by Swedish standards. She's got a husband and a kid now. We're friends on Facebook.
