Old frame, New build
Hi folks !
I introduce you my new ride I just finished!
I found a nice old French frame from late 70's built in Reynolds 531 tubes.
very light : frame and fork 2,3kg
(sorry I don't know the weight in pounds , I'm French ^_^)
I striped down the paint and applied a rust converter from Fertan inside and outside to protect it
(great product)
some pics before
Frame is 3,5 lb
Campagnolo dropouts
I painted myself with spray cans (2k painting and lacquer)
Wet sanding to 1500 and 2000 then polishing with meguis compound paste.
result is great but not as resistant as epoxy coating
Then I assembled the pieces like a puzzle
here the parts list :
- Nitto NY3 stem and B245AA allrounder handlebar
- Brooks grips
- Tektro brakes levers
- Shimano Ultegra Shifters
- Velo Orange shifters adapters
- Campagnolo Gran Sport Headset
- Velo Orange seatpost SP UNO 26,4mm
- Brooks B17 Imperial saddle
- Stronglight 49d crankset 52/42
- Vélo Orange Bottom bracket 118mm
- Dura Ace 7700 F&R derailleurs
- 8 speeds Shimano cassette
- Mavic CXP10 rims
- Shimano 105 hubs
- Fairweather for travelers tires 700x28c
I still have to wiring the front derailleur ; I waiting for the right cable gear guide
I tried it like this for the moment and the rear shifting is pretty smooth
I'm really happy with the result
cheers

I like!
Light colored frames with silver components really pop.
The tires help set it off - somewhat uniquely.

Thanks a lot everyone !
I love riding it, it feels so smooth that's perfect !
sorry for the title that's right, that's not really from scratch.
I tried to edit the title but apparently it's not possible

I want to do a similar cockpit someday for the right candidate. Perfect classy looking grips that come in black as well.
Whats the transmission ?

Yes Brooks grips are incredibly confortable !
Transmission is 2x8 speeds Stronglight crankset 52/42 and shimano Hyperglide 8 speeds (I bought the wheels used I have to count the teeth on chainring cassette ^_^ )

C'est magnifique. I like it. You might want to swap those quill pedals out for a pair of Lyotard 460s if you want to keep it vintage looking. For a townie build like this, I'd seriously consider running a pair of BMX pedals or a pair of the MKS lambda pedals (very comfy with regular shoes)

Problem with pedals is that they have to be French thread
I have got some lyotard 460 but they're not in good shape
these one are Kyokuto Pro Vic II ; very smooth but not the most practical for an urban use that's true

That definition would also require riveting together the derailleurs, assembling the brake calipers from constituent parts, etc. Most components that go on a bike's "build" are themselves assembled by people handing it previous to us. Why is the frameset magically different?

Is steerer Reynolds or NERVOR?
What was rear spacing at intake; was it necessary to cold set for present drive train?

It is a beautiful bike Geoffroy! The steerer is the part of the fork that passes thru the headset.
