Addiction LXXIV

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I did hill repeats last night. They sucked.

This is morning I took a picture to show what I’ve been doing the past 5-1/2 months.

So one of my friends has a Crabon bike which has a crack on in the ST near the BB.

Other than Calfee, any suggestions on who is good for CF repair?? East Coast is better if possible.

I'd start by looking at local frame builders. On a ride last week, I ran across a guy riding a sweet custom Appleman bike (a local builder). I chatted him up and it turns out he was Matt Appleman, the owner/builder. We rode/chatted for ten minutes or so and it came up in conversation that he also does repairs. I would be shocked if you couldn't find someone similar within driving distance.

Rode through ye olde towne today. Why do rides over unfamiliar terrain feel so much longer than they are? I would have sworn my ride was more than 28 measly miles.

I did a little google search for my friend. I did see Appleman as an option. The issue is that I believe all the local framebuilders (at least within an hour or two of here) only use steel, aluminum, and/or Ti. I don't think there is anyone who does Crabon Fiber nearby.

Interesting dilemma for this Sunday. The good news is my wife and kids are going to a bridal shower in NJ so I am hypothetically free to ride as long as I want.

The wrinkle is that my aging parents are "on the way" to the shower so my wife has suggested I go and spend the day visiting them. Of course, she is right. But now I see the epic ride opportunity vanishing. Sigh. I suppose in the grand scheme a visit to aging parents is more important than a bike ride, so I should just do a big ride on Saturday and visit them on Sunday.

Right?

Oh, since Addiction loves when worlds collide, I'm happy to report that Dan and I were able to secure a little bit of time from our respective CEOs to chit chat over a few tasty beers last night. It was nice to get out of Retireeburg for a little while and act like a somewhat social adult.

Every time a new saddle sore thread pops up, I'm both puzzled as to why some seem so prone to getting them and thankful that I've never had to deal with them. Ish.

Why not? I think that works.

I have been trying to squeeze in a longer ride by asking my wife to let me meet her/her family on their excursions. Yeah, she's made it clear that that's not gonna fly - she doesn't feel comfortable navigating around here and she really doesn't want to ride with them (and have our kids' safety rely on their driving). Bummer.

Same here. But I'm about to set out on tour, so I'm paying better attention this time around.
