Metra, it is the only way to fly.

Crystal Lake Train station - https://goo.gl/maps/bAgKH4CcjZB2

Take it to the end of the line, Ogilvie station - https://goo.gl/maps/HTT3fiToAjM2

Buy your ticket on the train into Chicago, but the return at the stain in Chicago.

The Metra is awesome. Fast, clean, cheap, you can bring a beer on with you... you can get the Ventra Ap to get your tickets, really the only way to do it.

When you get on the train, use the doors marked for handicapped access, that's where you bring your bikes. Bring a bungee cord to strap the bike to the folded chairs (it will make sense when you board). No fee for the bikes either!

No need for Venta, get the Metra weekend pass.

Buy it at the station in Crystal Lake (if it's open) or purchase on the train. It's $8 for unlimited rides, and a substantial savings vs. a roundtrip ticket.

Downtown is a safe 30-minute walk from the train. You could do the Riverwalk if you want to take the scenic route.

Looking at the weather forecast for Saturday, I am not encouraged. I will have to make a decision before the end of the day tomorrow.

A day like today, a cold rain, I don't ride. Saturday's forecast is warm and scattered T-storms. I'll roll those dice. But I am local, makes a big difference if I was traveling far.

I was looking forward to this, but dedicating 2+ days to a ride that is very likely to be wet and possibly be visited by downpours and lightning requires a bit more commitment than I can muster up. I'll keep my eyes open for future possibilities in the area. I hope the weather gives you guys a break and that you have a fun and safe ride.

I don't mind "chance of T Storms" as long as it isn't 40 miles of pouring rain.
I am thinking I'm going to ride the trek 610 if it's iffy. If that happens I can still easily bring the black lightning, me and the lady rock a van.

So the weather forecast is only getting worse as the ride approaches. Come Saturday morning, this is how I will roll.

Check your favorite radar. If there is any yellow or red east of Rockford by 9am, I am not riding. If all of northern Illinois is green , meaning an all-day rain, I am not riding. If there is scattered green by 9am, I’ll ride, but likely on some off-topic nonsense.

I hope to see you all, but it looks like a 90% chance I won’t.

I was caught in the rain last Saturday, soaked but being warmer temps it wasn't so bad.

I'm in if just drizzling damp but out if its heavy rain and thunderstorms. Let's hope those forecast are wrong-

Wish the weather were better

There was going to be two of us to attend.....one with a 1990 LeMond (coming in from S.Bend, IN), the other a 1973 Mondia Special (I'm local). Ugh, we wanted to ride and participate. Due to the weather we will not be riding, however, we will both be local so if there are plans to get together for lunch we will join you.

Crank Addict - please be sure to text as you know we will be there in a flash.

Looks like it may be clear after all for the ride according to the hourly forecast i looked at. I'm hoping anyway.

Crossing fingers for you - even if it means I cautioned out and missed a great event.

No worries. I suspect the best we are going to get is a short wet ride and at the taqueria by 10:30 for their chorizo and egg breakfast burrito and Mexican Coke. Quite sublime really, but I'm sure not unique to me.

This forecast is just like my wedding day.

We were getting married outside at 4pm and it poured until 3:50pm.

unless the forecast improves dramatically in the next few hours, I don't plan to attend. Too much driving just to ride in the rain.

Thanks very much to Mr IAB for putting the ride together! Life is busy enough without these extra tasks, but I certainly appreciate the effort! Maybe next spring???

(the forecast here is just as lousy)

Spring ride is a go. Assuming of course L3/L4 doesn't go to hell.

For headcount, I know of 2 to give it a go. But we have the advantage, we live close and we are not too bright.
