How can people tell when other cyclists are pissed off? Do they sneer and shake their fist in disgust? Seriously, if you're behind them, how can you tell they're upset by looking at their back? If you're ahead of them, do you turn around to check out their mug before dropping the ol' hammer?

This is one of the Bike Forums mysteries that I've never been able to penetrate.

This guy passed me last Thursday night. Can't you see how pissed off he is?

He was so mad that I did not try to latch on to his wheel that he turned into a driveway and just stopped riding.

Then he waved at me as I rode past. Some people are such jerks.

See reply # 16. I don't get to ride in your area that much, glad you enjoyed it.

So, 5 miles and you wouldn't take a pull?

She does watch most of the videos at least once soon after they are online. She would prefer that I didn't bike in NOLA at all (mostly because of crime) but isn't too worried about the riding. My buds all ride like me as does most anyone who has the capabilities here, so she sees it through a windshield all the time. She is in agreement that is is much less annoying to get passed by a bike, or to follow someone doing 20mph, than all of the slow and wrong-way cyclists around.

You know the speed of the vids are sometimes ramped up in editing don't you? The video in the OP is normal speed but the camera is on the handlebars (not on my helmet) and that makes things look pretty close to correct. The helmet mount makes the speed look really slow, so I often speed those up a bit.

Why yes, actually he did turn and yes shook his head and tried to gain some speed and kept looking back. So no mystery here.

Hey I was the one pulling all the weight to keep up, he could of backed off and drafted me, his choice not mine.

That roadie knew what he was doing, he was blowing Joey's doors off to make a point. Two guys on bikes, and atleast one see's the other, its a race. Sometimes the slower guy doesnt have a chance, so he says it isnt. Of course, when that slower guys see's someone who he can catch, you bet your life he rides all out.

I dont think Joey every really claimed to have that guys speed, just the skills to ride with him in the congestion.

If the roadie wasnt racing, why did he blow the light?

Because we all blow the lights here. In the past 35 years of cycling in a city FULL of bikes, I have never even once seen a cyclist waiting for a green light. If it's clear, we go. 9 months of the year it's unbearably hot and sheer torture to stop. Then there is the criminal element that victimize stopped or slow moving cyclists. And no one here, not even me, wants to lead a pack irate, gun toting motorists off a green light.

Thanks ever so much for daring to take my side, but facts are facts.

Great thread reincarnation! That was a funny read.

Funny video too, although in an age where I can read Phil Gaimon's Instagram and see video of him riding below 5mph from his car to another spot in a parking lot and have a bunch of comments menarching about "Wear a helmet, my kids watch this channel" I'm surprised in a forum filled with to the letter dot the i and cross the t follow the rules of the road people that there was not more shouting down of the super dangerous red light running. I'm mean at around 2:00 in dude almost gets hit.

I don't mind seeing that, at all, even if you don't have a helmet either. Do you homie. Just shocked that the hi-vis rear view mirror on helmet crowd wasn't more up in arms over that.

Where are all the cool videos from geeked out roadies passing some commuter with her pant legs tucked into her shoe? I imagine those would be hysterical.

Epic thread bump...

Props for the tune and the attitude to red lights. Screw the safety wowsers.

Here's a question for the folks saying we're all ambassadors - is it reasonable to tell off jaywalkers on the basis that they inspire motorists to murder pedestrians?

If it happens when I'm driving, damn straight I'll yell at them.
I get treated like **** by most drivers because they assume I'm an idiot like him.

Anyone who calls themselves law abiding isn't being honest. I do not know of any road user who obeys the law 100% of the time. I approve of Joey's urban cycling survival tactics. It seems like he is experiencing success in employing his strategies.

The only time I win races is when the other guy or gal doesn't know we're racing. Suggestion...remove the "Ride Safely" from your ending credits; you dont. I may use your video when working with children as a what not to do video. Good luck and don't wreck the LHT; it deserves better.

Actually... dude in the video doesn't have the body language of "i'm working my a** off". His body language and how he's pedaling screams "taking it easy". I wonder if he knew he was in a race?

That is a massive waste of 2 minutes, since i FF'd thru the dumb video and skipped half of it.

1- why is a commute like that posted on YouTube etc? I don't understand why someone thinks others want to see a commute video and i dobt understrand why people want to see a commute video.
2- the derision displayed towards the road biker is just pathetic.
3- that red light you blew where you brake and swerve around cross traffic is completely unsafe and shouldnt ever in any way be a point of pride. But hey- it helped close the gap on a guy with a road bike so cool.
