I don't have them back yet from the machinist but he sent me some photos of the finished work. Looks good to me.

Ok, I got the pieces back and while I am still waiting for the 12mm to QR adapter to come, a test fit makes this look like a success!
Here is the cassette side where I needed a measurement of 1mm. It's 1mm right on the nose:
On the brake rotor side, I needed 15mm and it's exactly that now:
I did a test fit in the bike but had to eyeball the position in the dropouts but looks right and the gears shift as expected:
I don't have any brake rotors for this wheelset yet either so I swapped one from the original wheel and that lines up just right also.
The machinist did a really nice job. I figured the axle would be easy but the two end caps looked to be tricky to me. I can't even tell which side he machined down. They look great!
Of course the real test is to ride it. Hopefully next week when the axle adapter gets here.

Well, so much for "not convertible". I'm calling this a success! The 12mm to QR adapter came yesterday. I got this one from Velofuze which I like because it has the o-rings which keep it in there firmly:
Installed you have to look closely to see that this is not a QR wheel hub:
I installed the wheel on the bike and it looks like a perfect fit:
I rode it on the trainer for a few minutes and both the brake and the shifting work perfectly.
