Heavy Mama looking to start riding again...need recs
Hey Y'all!! Got a quick question for you. I just looked at a bike to purchase for "everyday" riding. I'm heavy, 5'4" 220 lbs, but wanting to get back out into biking and also attach a child seat so that my daughter can enjoy with me. Tired of being out of shape, but my Specialized Allez Vita (which I used for sprint Tris) is probably not the best bike for both of us to fit on and I'm afraid to break it, lol, with my new weight. It's unfortunately sat in my garage unused for the last 3 years. So, is 160 a good price for a good condition Giant Sedona? It's grey/burgundy, 26 inch wheels, 17 in frame. Seller also had a Giant Cypress Lx with 700cc rims but its been so long even though it was a smoother ride I felt unsteady on it. And of course was a bit pricier. Advice???

220# is nothing for a bike, and the Sedona seems like a good price too. Adding a child seat will impact the handling of your bike, of course, so get some practice in on your own first. Good luck!

Thank you. Heaviest I've ever been and at my height of 5'4" is uncomfortable, which makes riding different than I remember...🤣 but I don't want that to stop me. I'm also looking at a 2000 Trek Navigator 300 for about the same price.

Yes, that price is outstanding, Unless there's something drastically wrong with it, I would buy. Your weight will not be an issue at all, and you will get used to handling with a child seat on the back pretty quickly, but definitely get comfortable without it first. Have you looked into trailers? I remember really liking them when my boys were younger.
My wife is exactly where you are, and just getting back on the bike has been such a benefit. Ride, ride, ride!

Kitte108 - Why not just keep the Specialized Allez Vita and then pull your child in a trailer? A bike like that should be sufficiently strong for your weight and a well designed trailer will roll pretty well with a kid up to 100 pounds in weight.
