I'm in for one. I'm sure I'd never buy anything from them, so I'll donate mine. Anybody up for finding a worthy BF member we could all donate the $10 cards to, maybe they could do something with it instead of just throwing them in a drawer? Possibly a voting poll thread to elect a worthy member?

Rivendell has been important for promoting cycling as an adult activity that anyone can enjoy and the steel bikes we love. I hope the gift cards help them through the winter.

Who knows what might happen in the future. There's clearly value to the Rivendell brand.
Compare and contrast to the REI model, tell me what the differences are.

I have a Sam Hillborne that I bought used on craigslist and a bunch of other rivish bikes, so I feel like I have benefited at least a little bit from the Petersen philosophy over the years. Interestingly, I have never bought anything directly from Rivendell because everything I have ever been interested in was available cheaper somewhere else. If I ever spend Rivendell money on a frame, it probably won't be another Rivendell, so I'm a little conflicted. I'd like to see Rivendell stay in business, but if I get some of the gift cards it would basically be a donation. I'll have to think about this one.

Didn't want to see that talent lost to the bicycle world like it was for me when Gunnar quit.
So I bought one. How many catalogs cost you like a coffee table book anyway.

There are a few things I may have bought, but they are sold out, and everything else he sells is nearly double what I would normally pay. I recently bought a nitto dirt-drop stem from Outside Outfitters for $37. Riv wants $68 for the same exact stem. Just about everything they sell is like that. It's a bummer they can't make money selling cool retro bikes, but that's the way markets work. Life is hard.

To redeem my card I'd be happy just to receive a print copy of the catalog. I love my old B-stone catalogs and they for sure helped shape my love of traditional bikes.

Debating whether to go in, or just buy some stuff. Seems like either way would help their cash flow and I'd probably drop more if I buy stuff than if I bought the gift card, but who knows. Have to think on it when I get home from work tonight.

The first time I ever saw a Rivendell in person was four years ago where there about eight or ten of them lined up on the floor of a LBS. I was very impressed with their grail worthiness. Sadly way out of my budget. It would be a shame to see them disappear from the landscape.

Absolutely! They offer what you rarely see anymore at a mainstream bike store - steel frame selection, friction derailleurs, silver components, classically inspired items, touring and practical items, etc.
I bought 2.
For me it was a small effort to thank them for their outstanding MUSA shorts that are actually accurately sized and well made and comfortable.
