Araya RM-20 vs RM-25

What's the difference? I have wheelsets with each, the RM-20 set is perfect but the RM-25's are on some sealed sansin hubs that need a bit of work. Is it worth it my time to fix and use them over the RM-20s?

Widths , the RM20 was about 20mm wide bead width and the RM25 was ... you guessed it approx 25mm wide.

I had mixed luck with RM-25s, I think mostly because I got a factory-bent one via mail order, missed the refund/return window, and stubbornly decided to build it up anyway. And I never want to deal with a disaster of a wheel like that again. A life lesson I won't forget. But the other unbent RM-25s seemed to hold up OK.

I built a set of wheels using RM 20s for my 1985 Cannondale SM 600 using DT spokes and the original Suntour XC sealed hubs.. Bike has 24" rear and 26" front and rim was available in both sizes! They have held up great after all if these decades. Build them well from the start and keep them tensioned and true.

Rm-20/25

These are my favorite of the older MTB rims, and I especially like the hard anodized versions. They're double walled and sturdy. I've built up several sets over the years and have consistently been happy with the results. Nice to have a set of each. 👍👍

That has been my experience as well. These rims can be built into very sturdy wheels.
