Trek's misleading fender-support claims for Domane

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The best way to get a dedicated fender bike as I posted in another thread is to build one. The bike industry (at least in the US) still doesn't get it.
Either that or the market for fendered bikes is much smaller than you think.

FWIW: SKS Raceblade Longs (<-important) are quite good as far as strap-ons go. They provide almost the same coverage as full fenders, fit just about any bike and are very easy to install/remove. Way better than anything else I've tried.

I know it's pretty small, but the compromises involved in designing a road bike to fit 28mm tires and fenders aren't that significant.

It does seem that full fenders on a full-on road bike is primarily a hardcore bike nerd thing though, and a lot of us would turn up our noses at a stock bike anyway.

I don't get it, no one associated with that company ever lies about anything.

No...the bike industry gets it...they make their decisions based upon demand...there isn't much demand for a high end bike with fenders.

OP...personally, I wouldn't sweat this. You will likely get some fenders to work. But will give you another strategy...one that is more convertible.
Just get some SKS removal fenders for your bike...or my personal favorite Crud fenders...Rear fender bolts to the seat post and I like its design the best. Front fender zip ties to the 'downtube'. This is a great solution for those that own a bike not designed for fenders...and can be easily removed when the weather clears.

well I finally got this to work with some metal fenders from Portland Design Works. couldn't do it myself, though, and took the LBS a couple of tries to get it right. still not sure whether it will hold, but feeling optimistic...though we are thinking of a 24c tire in back just to give a bit of breathing room. still disappointed with Trek's claims, and they are stonewalling my inquiries

There is a page here showing a different fender on a Domane. https://classiccycleus.com/home/pdw-full-metal-fenders/

I suspect your dealer is a bit clueless and is blaming Trek instead of admitting his own ignorance. I just can't see Trek telling him to fit their own brand 35mm wide fender to a bike that can only just squeeze in 28mm tyres alone.

I also have to second the comments about the appropriateness of this bike for the task. A Domane is horrible on potholes or cobblestones. It's just marginally less horrible that a conventional bike of its class like a Madone. It still has narrow tires, light wheels and expensive components. I'm not going to say it's the wrong bike for you but it would not be my choice for that task.
Hmmmm...I saw a really good rider fly over cobblestones last weekend on one. Some Cancellara guy? Won some race in Belgium.

I spit out all my coffee when I saw that line...

I suspect the 28C tyres that fit on my giant defy provide a much plusher ride than all that fancy tech in the Domane.

Maybe it's better suited as a track bike on a velo drome!

The post that you quoted is 7 years old and pre-dates adjustable IsoSpeed.
