Can (should) this Mikado be rescued?
A friend of mine just found this in his basement, asking me if I wanted it as a project. I do have some time ahead of me (and a couple of other projects), but my skills are somehow limited. I love to work on bike and have quite a few tools, but I'm no professional mechanic. So what do you think? What do your eyes see that mine don't? What would be your game plan?
The bike is incredibly dirty but I sense some potential (look at these nice Dura Ace cable rings!).

Sadly, yes, I can and would accept that bike for free and overhaul/refurb/flip it for $200. My expenses would be for cables/housing, tires, and Newbaum's -- about $55. It has good hoods and a saddle. So, can and would.
"Should" is another matter entirely.

Grease and clean and it should be a good bike.
All the cables I can see have cable ends on which means either the previous owner looked after it or it's got no wear.

If you’re still pretty green with overhauling bikes, this is a great one for practice. Japanese bikes from that era are easy to work on and will be very satisfying.

Thank you for saving this old survivor. IMO the satisfaction from this project should have been worth every penny. And wrenching on a bike is good therapy IMHO.

best available therapy in our times - this I agree. That’s why I ended up doing it in the end. Made zero profit with the flip, but it wasn’t the idea anyway
