Seriously, if you and your buddies are riding along and pass me and I'd like a free draft...I will hop on and get a draft. What is this nonsense about courtesy and asking for permission. Unless you guys decide to ride unsafely, I'll stay on the rear guys wheel until I see fit.

Some day you'll have a bad crash and maybe you'll understand that drafting/pacelines on public roads are best done with folks you know and trust.
Til then, good luck.

So I'm riding single on the STP and notice a rider slowly catching up to me, then he is on my wheel. I look back now and then and he says "I find it easier for me if I draft other riders". After 15-20 minutes it was obvious he wasn't into sharing so I took a break to stretch my legs. Poacher.

seriously, don't be a hater. If the guy rides smoothly, then what's the problem?

About the last place I'd want to be is drafting behind someone who is annoyed with me. All it takes is a quick grab of the brake and the drafting rider is down.

When I pass someone, I'm expecting them to hop on. I'll watch to be sure. No big deal. But what I don't like is someone who just comes up unannounced and I hear them

As stupid as this might sound to some of you guys, I don't even draft off of people I know. I don't like people on my rear wheel either so I'm usually the guy who's riding on the side or hanging a bike length back.
IMO it doesn't get any more ******** than passing someone slower and then having them drafting off of you. It's not a matter of "Oh you're getting a free ride", but it's a safety thing.

Besides being a little weird having someone I don't know in "my space", it is not the least bit dangerous or "poacher-y" to have a person drafting me. Just so long as they aren't expecting me to protect them. There is almost nothing they can do which would put me in danger.
