Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? DC Pk Ripper Reviews

Hi !

https://www.sneakerfiles.com/2009/10/...10-fixed-gear/
I am keen on buying this bike, and needed your expert advice for the same.

Please let me know about the quality and durability of the components.

I ride a 49 cm road bike and 15" hybrid, the Ripper in stock is the 49 cm, is this the correct frame size for me.
I plan to ride the freewheel mostly , since it is a flipflop hub.

I have not ridden a single speed in some time, and would like to know your inputs towards a first time single speed rider.

thks in advance

Yikes !
Maybe this was the older 2009 model, the one that I have listed is a 2010. I will not be doing any stunts. Just needed a solid bike for city commutes.

nope getting it for around $350. Did not care much for the color, but certainly liked the rims and hubs.

Time for what is most likely the most positive post on the internet supporting a PK Ripper Fixed Gear.

I like my 2011 PK Ripper, I simply ride it and don't trick it and it has held up just fine. I see no no problem in picking them up at $300-$400 new, the wheelset itself is nearly worth that much if you were build a set with the same components. If for some reason you happen to trash your frame you still got a rocking set of wheels that in reality costs nearly as much as what you paid for the bike.

Now time to fight for the other side of the fence. From what I saw on my 2011 Ripper the cog and freewheel on the bike are pretty much junk. I already replaced my cog with something better and will be replacing the freewheel with a Shimano MX-30. I also did not care for the stock saddle, I'm a big guy and it is nice to have something that is a bit more supportive. Beyond that I found most of the other components to match the cost of the bike.

Yes that is true ! ThimbleSmash the only positive response I have received. In all honesty the variety of fixies/ single speeds is far more in the other countries. In my country if you make a single speed it will not be that durable, as well as the frame size for me is an impossibility. My curiosity about single speed, makes me want to take the plunge.Tell me , are any of your friends riding this bike too, if yes could you tell them to chip in as well. Is there a huge difference between the 2010 and 2011 ?

The only major differences I see between that DC Ripper and a standard 2011 is that the DC has a different crank set, pedals, and grips. I'm by no means an expert when it comes to frame size and fit, but I would say if your road bike fits you nice I would start taking measurements from it to get an idea of what Ripper frame size will work best for you.

I don't know anyone else locally who has a Ripper, I'm lucky to find someone who rides fixed gear or even knows what it is.

PK Ripper

Hey there. I just bought myself the PK Ripper fixie for the Rupee equivalent of $ 330. What a coincidence.
