Hasn't happened too many times to me. More often they fly in my mouth. Hurts when they fly right into the wall of the throat at speed.

Nowadays riding thru clouds of gnats I try to remember to keep my teeth together.

Your prior comment was wrong and this follow up comment doesn't add to your theory.

Years ago, I used helmets from a German company called Uvex… In the front vents, they had very fine screens… Kind of a mesh. Did a great job keeping bugs out. I wish more helmets were designed that way.
Love my Uvex helmets! I've been stung in the scalp too many times. I'm really sad that they pulled out of the U.S. market, I'd love to buy another. There are a few other brands that feature similar bug screens but I guess a MIPS/Wavecel helmet is a good investment-better crash protection and reasonably bee-proof.

As with others, I seem to catch more bugs with my mouth than helmet.
(Could be they're just more noticeable there.)

About 3 weeks ago I rode past a woman walking down a little travelled road. She was swatting at something just before I rode past. Apparently a bee as it went into my helmet which I took off and shook.

A moment later felt a sting on my stomach. The mark is just disappearing now.

Brilliant and stupidly cheap solution but who needs 100 unless you are running a grammar school cafeteria? Maybe give them away as Xmas gag gifts.

I tried to dodge it but it flew right into one of the holes in my helmet and landed directly on my head. The next thing I know I feel a sharp pain where this thing had landed. Turns out it was a yellowjacket and it had just stung me on my scalp. I stopped my bike and took off my helmet to get the thing off my head. I then realized that I am allergic to bees and had some good sized hills ahead of me to get home. I figured that continuing my ride would only serve to spread the venom faster so I called my wife to come get me. Once home I took some Benedryl. It hurt for a while but I lived.
Hope you now carry a tab in a baggie on your cycling adventures since stings have a cumulative effect within certain people.

I want to use this opportunity to remind all the young riders out there... always wear eye protection! In this case the fiend got me in the exposed flesh between the top of my Oakleys and the rim of my helmet. I shudder to imagine what might have been. As it was, I'm sure passing motorists were wondering what in the 9 Hells was going on with me in that moment.

It's evening now, and it still hurts.
This just happened to me three weeks ago. Add it to the list of chin, right cheek, lower lip (ouch!), neck, 2 down the jersey.

For me this has been a record year catching airborne critters with my helmet. Has to be one every third ride.

I remember when cycling helmets first appeared, with no outer hard shell, they all had cloth covers with screening over the vents. Man we’re they hot like wrapping your gourd in plastic wrap.

$13 per 100 nets, don't cheap out on me now!
That is $0.13 each and a 100 minimum order.

Yes, give them away, nobody "needs" 100. Play the nice guy on Group Rides through a Bee farm !
RSBOB, PM me your address and I'll drop some in an envelope.

All the best
