Steel geared rigid 29er for ~$1500?

Any suggestions in this price range? Looking for gears. I saw the Fisher Ferrous 29er and liked that, aside from the fork. Could swap for a rigid fork I suppose but wanted to survey other options.

Thanks for any tips.

I think it may be possible to get he Niner Sir 9 as a complete build, don't know if it's 1500 or less though. I know I've sen a steel geared hardtail niner with a Reba for around 2 grand at a LBS. It was about 2K, so the fully rigid may be a bit more than 1500.

I do think your best option may be to get a hardtail option and switch out the fork. You could prbably get a decent steel fork and come out ahead, assuming that the fork on a 1500 dollar bike is at least going to be a Tora, maybe nicer.

How about way under $1500...

https://www.redlinebicycles.com/adultbikes/d460.html

Also 1x9 and steel.

Or buy a frame and have your LBS build it up:

https://vassagocycles.com/bandersnatch.html
https://www.somafab.com/juice29.html
https://www.surlybikes.com/karatemonkey.html

All steel. With a good deal on a build kit any of these could come in < $1500.

to me $1500 for a rigid bike is a lot of money. I found it funny that someone was willing to pay $1500 for a steel rigid bike. obviously you lack a sense of humor about this.

It's just a different market. Seems like you think that's a lot; I think it's perfectly reasonable. Freedom of opinion.

That said, it's not OK for you to ridicule the idea of spending $1500 on a rigid steel bike any more than it's OK for me to make fun of your Huffy.

I actually found it quite funny myself. But if it trips someone's trigger to spend &$1,500 for the equivalent of a 20-year-old mountain bike with bigger wheels, well, who am I to stand in the way?

20 year old mountain bike would have different geometry, drivetrain, and brakes.

Just sayin'.

then you will a field day with the cost of this bike:

https://www.velonews.com/article/7490...rek-comes-home

don't hate the 29er rigid guys. 2 weeks ago, I raced and won but the 2nd place finisher in my class was riding a Steel rigid 29er. The last 12 hour event I was at the most mileage by ANY rider in the solo class was by a guy riding a steel rigid 29er SS. He finished 2 laps ahead of the 2nd place rider. He was also a pro rider and finished the last lap with a flat rear.

$1500 for a geared steel ox plat rigid bike sounds reasonable to me considering the last suspension fork I bought was $700. Plus, don't knock it until you've tried it. There is definately room for those bikes.

ALL the SS guys in my last race were on rigid 29ers.

I thought he was laughing at spending only $1500 on a bike, my old boss had a niner with a carbon fork, singlespeed worth over $2500 (wholesale), I couldn't touch him on the downhills with my 4" suspended hardtail.

How about a steel frame for $1695.

https://www.ifbikes.com/frames2/steeldeluxe.shtml

They don't list the price for their rigid fork though.
