I have a top tube bag that fits my cell phone and extended battery (on their side not flat) and a few other items. It mounts with Velcro around the top tube and handle bar stack. I believe it may be a Topeak brand but not sure.

I now have a new carbon bike and do not want to have the velcro straps or the bag contacting my frame.

I am looking for a bag/case "bento box?" that will mount with screws but has a rigid bottom and "stand offs" so that the bag does not make contact by sitting on the frame.

I found one from silca (SPEED CAPSULE TT) that attaches with screw but does it appears to sit flush on the top tube. It is also not high enough to fit a cell phone on its side.


Anyone know of a product like this?

• Should have 3" to 3.25" vertical inside height to fit a cell phone on edge.
• Does not need to be very wide and not wider than a typical top tube
• Any type of closure is fine. My current one has a flip top that holds in place with magnets that is nice
• Mount with screws to top top mounting holes
• Bottom should be rigid so that washers or standoff can keep the bag from touching the tube.
• Water proof is plus but not a requirement.
• Bottom must be rigid but the remaining parts do not need to be rigid.
• Good looks are always a plus but I go for function first.

Ok, I'll be the first to ask.. what's wrong with a rear pocket on a jersey and a ziploc to hold the phone/battery?

Less than half the cost. Versatile attaching platform along the bag, quality material, and mech elastic storage on the outside too.

It does only come in black though, and i understand if someone wouldnt be caught dead bringing a bottle of their favorite red over to a dinner party in a drab black bag.

Meh, my knee can hit the bag when I stand to climb on my gravel bike, but it's quite easy to avoid.

I would guess that trendy short stems on some gravel bikes could make for tough fit

Mine clears, or barely brushes them. They will hold a 32 ounce drink, or 3 apples, or a really large mango and a thin cell phone.

1. I have found that it scuffs or eventually mars the finish of the bike.
2. cleaner look to not have the straps or a tag end flapping.
3. Using the velcro around the stem on my current bag if snugged tight, it makes it hard to open, if loose it moves (wears finish). I currently have a small foam block to add space.

1. I don't like the added weight.
2. I sweat profusely and the one time I did have the phone in the rear pocket it got rather wet. zip lock bag helps to solve that, but I have found my phone tends to overheat in a ziplock (surf fishing)

I also like having everything on the bike and not have to remember to grab my stuff before a ride. I keep an ID, cash, a few band-aids, and small sun screen in the top tube bag.
Spare tube, patch, chain link, tools I keep in a converted water bottle. I ordered a silca seat roll so I will move those to under the seat.

I can understand where you are coming from regarding not marring the finish. Personally I use my jersey pockets to carry everything as mentioned above. I think I have seen some containers that are designed to fit in a bottle cage, but then you would be giving up on how much water you can carry. I don't think they make something for the top tube that doesn't contact the top tube.

I use a topeak "fuel tank" bag on my randonneering rides and have no issues with paint scuffing(many thousands of miles on different bikes). If you're worried put down some tape.
Phone always in my jersey pocket though.

Topeak fast fuel looks like a nice bag. It does have the mounting screws but still needs the velcro strap on the end. If the bottom was rigid (carbon fiber?) it could mount securely with only the screws.
Quadlock looks like a great phone mount if you need to see/access the phone while riding. I have a bike computer and do not need to view the phone while riding.

Thanks everyone for the response. It appears most new bikes come with top tube mounting screws for a 'bento box", but no one was selling them.
Now seeing top tube or tank bags with the mounting screws, but it is typically a modification of a current strap based product.
I am looking for the option that is designed from the start to be mounted with screws. I believe it will eventually exist, but just not yet.

You may have some luck with reaching out to some of the smaller bag manufacturers. They may be able to design something custom for you.

Thanks for the links. The one from apidura is the closest thing to what I had envisioned. Don't need the magnetic attachment feature, and unfortunately they are not making it anymore.
Most of the others appear to be adapted to screw mount, and one that showed as screw mount only had no details about the product.

The search will continue, and I am sure more product will cater to screw mount as time goes on.

I purchased a 915D from DARK speed works.
Nice bag, BIG, but the mount holes do not match my bike!
Talking to them about solution.
