Anyone build a pump track in their yard?
We have about a 1 acre lot. The kid wants to build a pump track around the perimeter. I'm warming up to the idea. Anyone here do this?

Not me. I even had to look it up. Sounds interesting, though.

Sounds like a great idea. But if he has friends that will use it too you have to consider sue happy parents into the equation nowadays

This, it's called an attractive nuisance, pool, hot tubs, trampolines, etc fit under this. If you do it, you may want to look into fence codes for your situation.

Is that 1-acre the lot your house is on? Or is it an adjacent lot that isn't otherwise used? You don't really have to consider this I guess...but what will your neighbors say? Of course it'll likely attract lots of other kids/cyclists. Like hillyman indicated above...there could be legal ramifications. You probably ought to check with your homeowners insurance to make sure you're covered. If a kid rides his bike to your house and crashes in your driveway...that is kind of and expected incident. But injury due to a crash on a track that isn't constructed to certain safety standards might be an issue.

the perimeter of an acre is a huge track! I think the ones I’ve seen have been more like a swimming pool and its sidewalk

By the basic description , the Olympic BMX Race motos were on pump tracks
My house is on a very small lot, any less and it might as well be a houseboat.

To the OP, mark out a small area, maybe 30 x 50, get a couple shovels and a wheelbarrow, and let him have at it. It's good fun and maybe he'll get a few friends involved to help out.

I'm kind of thinking a loop trail around the yard with one or two spots with pumptrack-like features might be the way to go. Then I can ride my "gravel bike" and pretend it is cyclocross.

I wish I had the space and motivation to build a pump track in my backyard. I like what Seth has done to his place and I hope one day to have something like that.

Every day a winding road
I would start with local ordnance then move on to talking to your insurance company. Cool idea bu probably way more trouble than it is worth.
