Ididaride 2013

I post an announcement for this ride every year. This is heads and shoulders above any ride I have done. I have pretty much given up on most other centuries. I have done this ride for at least the last 5 years. Come join me for 2013 in the Adirondacks.

A fair bit of vertical but nothing real steep - just long. The support is great, the weather usually cool and the BBQ/party at the end is stellar - usually a bottle of microbrew is part of the deal.

Thanks, I have been thinking about doing it. It looks like a good ride. The ADKs are great and I have been meaning to ride them more.

It was a great ride again this year. The weather was perfection, started cool in the low 50s and warmed up to about 72 and dry, clear skies.
I had not ridden over about 40 miles this year and then only about 3 times I think. I decided a new strategy was needed for this 75 mile ride with a lot of climbs. I decided to pace myself, I usually push hard on this ride but this time I just laid back. Usually on the hills I would attack and use them as passing opportunities. This year I just let others go by.

By the end of the ride I felt great and finished in just under 5 hours. Had a good meal of BBQ, coleslaw, bean salad, etc. This is my favorite ride and will keep going back. However, I really have to get back in shape - although it was fun, it would have been even better if I was up to the condition of years past.

I rode it once in 2006, volunteered in 2007. I haven't been in good enough health to ride it since. How were the roads? Last time I was up there in 2011, Route 8 between Wells and Johnsburg was in rough condition.

Over the years they have done a lot of work on Rt8, it was in good shape except for a 20' section close to the Rt8 & Rt30 junction, they were putting in a culvert. This is by far the best organized ride I have every done.
