I’m using issi trail pedals mainly because I needed +6 mm more width so my heels wouldn’t hit the chainstays. Lots of cool colors too, but the extended spindles are only available with the black bodies unless you buy the colored ones, the spindle kit, and change the spindles yourself (or have a bike shop do it for you).

Nice to unclip & flip for the loose unstable places

Crank Bros. Eggbeaters on mine, but it sure takes time to get clipped in sometimes, and I'm using the shims too. I'm thinking about adding a second set of shims under each cleat to see if that helps any. Other than the clipping in issue that I hope to resolve, I really like these pedals.

I just switched from SPD-SL to MTB SPD. Not sure why did I even bother with road shoes in the first place...

I just swapped out my Candy3 pedals for SPD M9000 XTR pedals. Candy's were making noise, and I didn't like the slop. Only downside is that the SPD clear sticks out from the shoe a bit more.

I'm using the metal sole protectors/shims under my cleats now, but I can tell the rubber shoe tread is still firm against pedal spindle. Maybe an additional set of ships under the metal ones would help. Can't hurt to try.

I've been using Candy C's now Candy 2's for years on my MTB and now I am adding another set for my cross/gravel bike that I am currently building and they are the easiest pedals I have ever used to clip into by a long shot. I don't use any additional shims or what not. Just put the cleats on my Specialized mtb shoes and good to go.
It's a different motion to clip in than in road pedals or SPD's that I found works best for me. I just put my foot down on the pedal and then just slide the shoe forward or backwards with the foot depending on if my foot hit forward or aft of the pedal springs when it landed on the pedal to essentially roll the pedal springs into being clipped in.
I have also used SPD, SPD-SL, Older Look, Look Keo's, Wellgo SPD knockoffs, and speed plays.

Another A530 user here. They're fine but would prefer to be able to clip-in on either side so am thinking of switching to XTR.
