Took mine off today, 33°F after dark, but I also wore decent gloves. The mitts go on around 20°F for me.

I sold my bar mitts. I switched to battery heated glove liners coupled with isotoner flex gloves (soft shell waterproof w/ lots of insulation but still allow for dexterity). Worked perfectly down to 1.6 degrees (F) for 2 hours, haven't ridden in anything colder (yet).

Oh I bet! My current full fingered gloves were warmer then I had expected, and I haven't tried it yet but I suspect with the bar mitts I could use my summer gloves in warmer temps for maximum flexibility. Nothing's more dangerous then uncomfortable hands on a bike!

thought I would have used them more. my problem is not riding enough (1 day pr week). missed another ride day this past weekend due to visiting my Sister on the Cape & will miss another next weekend getting away w Wifey to Western MA. neither of them are interesting in cycling this time of year, altho my Sister agreed to rent bikes, but then changed her mind

It wasn't bad, just ten minutes to home, and the spouse forgot her house key so it all worked out that I didn't ride longer. Could've done another hour, easy, if I had the mitts.

last night temps were in the low 40s & dropped to the mid 30s. took the road bike bar mitts off & used the PI Lobster gloves. quite cozy. thinking about getting their fingered gloves

I have been very happy with these "Elites", advertised as good for 40°F to 60°F but today I wore them straight into a 20mph wind at 32°F (road bike) for an hour ride and never felt cold. I don't have bar mitts for my drop bar bike. Of course I was keeping my body temp up and never stopped.

I use a pair Perl Izumi biking gloves that are rated for 0F, they worked well this winter, I use a lighter weight glove in the spring /summer. Advantages besides warmth and comfort are bright colors matching my jacket

Gonna be in the 90s this week and some parts will feel like 100 still got the bar mitts on one bike that hasn’t been getting any use shud probably do some maintenance on that bike before I need it at least I won’t have to mount the studs cuz they never came off either hmmm guess I have a ‘winter bike’

those look interesting. I guess the two single fingers are well insulated. I got some Pearl Izumi lobster gloves last year & on the killer cold days they were a nice compliment to the bar mits

i do need a better solution for when it's 34* and below. My 45Nrth gloves are good but my fingers go numb and hurt when it gets that cold. So far I'm undecided which way I'm going to go. I like the positive posts of Barmit users but those Bontrager gloves are an inner glove with an outer shell. It looks serious.

My wife made us poggies/bar mitts for riding in South Dakota in the winter. Now that we have moved to Missouri, I hope we need them much less often ;-) We both have full finger gloves, and we just know when it is cold enough to need the bar mitts. When you breath in through your nose and your nose freezes closed it is cold enough!

I just noticed that Bar Mitts don't allow for riding on the drops. That may be a deal breaker for me. Am I misinterpreting the pics?

you can but there are issues. so for the most part you are correct.
you can ride on the hoods & the tops of the bars & I got accustomed to it. also when it's the coldest, you want to keep the hand in a more closed protected fist to maintain the heat. I've even tossed a hand warmer into the bar mitt
the straight bar units allow regular & full positioning.

someone should invent a type that protects hands while in the drops
it's been a long time so I'm actually struggling to remember what it was like to ride with them on the drop bar. I think I must have used the two straight bar bikes more during the cold weather last year
