Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

cycling tan is on its way!

First nice few days in portland Oregon!

I spent the last two days rolling up and down some of our 10-15% grade hills. 3-4 hour rides.

I am burned badly on my arms, but its nice to see those lines again! you really do forget what it is like to ride with no rain.

My cycling tan never actually went away. It fades, and then first time I ride with shorts it comes bouncing back again.

I was agreeing with him, as in, yes, that tattoo is pretty bad.

Additionally, sunscreen is good idea.

There is a string hanging from your shirt.

I'm getting a cycling tan, too. Mine particularly looks bad because I wear gloves, so my hands are still white.

After 30+ years of cycling in "proper" cycling jerseys, I have committed the mortal sin of buying some sleeveless jerseys.

I was really afraid I would be mistaken for a triathlete when I went out to ride my TT bike. But then I remembered I have no bottles on the back of my saddle and no Zipp products.

They'd just think you are a poor, dehydrated triathlete.

Alright everyone... he made this thread to discuss tan/burn from cycling, not to field your opinions on his tattoo or anything else. Back on topic please.

I did not know people in the Pacific Northwest consider suntanning until at least August.

This is a rare spring privilege for us in Portland. We have to burn first to start the tanning process , otherwise it will take until September and then the rain comes back. I got the same marks minus the tat, and the top of the thighs and calves. I tried flipping, but just didn't work. I'm not that good.

That's what we tell people so they don't move here.

Tho... it has been pretty nice. Today was 81 degrees and sunny. Although in a typical PacNW pattern- it is supposed to be 59 and showery- Thu-Sat.
