Bikes: Bianchi - 70's frame with stuck seatpost. Unbranded - Custom steel frame with Campagnolo parts which I bought online and is probably too small for me.

Component/product manufacture insurance
Hi frame builders. I've been working on a bike component for a few weeks and want to bring it to market. Quite difficult to get insurance though in terms of public liability and product insurance. Could anyone give some tips? In EU the part needs to meet BS or ISO standards. However I would like to sell internationally. How abut america?

you can get insurance for US sales of components, same as a framebulder. It's essential here unless you have no U.S. assets, but your market will be limited by lack of insurance. Where are you located?

I'm in UK. I have no U.S. assets. what standards do parts have to have in U.S.? I can't get insurance unless it's been tested to a BS I think.

The standards here are CPSC, Consumer Product Safety Commission.

OK I'll have a look at that. Have you ever tested a specific frame design? Or do u purely have to stick to some standards when building? There is only one that does pedal bikes in UK that I know of. They haven't got back to me with a quote either. I imagine they only do testing for big brands for big bucks.

There have been threads about bike testing and setting up the ability to do so over in Velocipede Salon's building forums in the last few years. I believe the Euro test specs are for a frame/fork and based on load paths, deflection/deformation amounts of complete frames/forks. So to with the CPSC tests although at one time the US tests were done to a complete bike, not a bare frame/fork. I know of no component specific tests, at least none that are discussed much. Andy

Many years ago I visited a Bike trade show in Harrogate UK, There are much larger ones annually,
in Germany and One in the US, to show your prospective product,
applying for a patent would be suggested.
There is also a Big Bike Trade show in Taipei TW..
