Tires.....does it matter?
Today I purchased a 1985 Raleigh Competition. As far as I can tell the bike is all original except for the saddle, seat post and the stem.
The bike is my size but it has no tires. Does it matter what tires I put on the wonderful bike??? If indeed it does please recommend to me what I should use.
Thank you

You should be able to fit a something larger than a 25 on it. 28's or 32's will give you a softer ride.

I'm of the opinion that you get what you pay for with tires. Panaracer Pasela is a wonderful, inexpensive tire. And for a 27" wheel its hard to find much better, but in a 700C size there's a lot of selection. IMHO, look into Grand Bois Tires or the higher end Vittoria Tires.

If you are concerned about flat protection, Continental Gatorskins, while about $40 each, are worth the insurance.

Ride quality, something that complements the classic bike that this is,something that will last.
I will look into the Paselas. Tires are something I am not up on. I always buy what is cheep at the LBS.
Thanks for the input

I am up on tires and I have been looking for affordable 700x23 gumwalls. I just passed on a set for thirty dollars plus thirty for shipping. I should have bought two sets but bucks are scarce at the moment.
Tires are very important to ride quality. Though you will be tempted to go cheap, as I do, better is better and the ride quality will be impacted positively.
