1971 Raleigh Pro
I'll spare you the boring story of how I had to check my phone 15,000 times this weekend, hoping the guy would reply. He finally did. It's a perfect fit and only missing original wheels and saddle. I keep going out just to look at it!

Well unless I'm mistaken those look like Phil hubs so yeah, I wouldn't be too broken up about the originals not being there.
I'm confused by "going out" to look at it though. That sucker ought to be in, and you should be looking at it from the couch.

I wish they were PW hubs! More like $99 commuter special replacements. They do have Weinmann rims and ride pretty nice. "Out" is out in the hallway...by the way.

...Campy Record hubs are not that hard to find, even these days. They're probably a little pricey, but if you build new wheels with some of the nicely appropriate newer rims available today, you'll get better performance with a clincher tyre anyway. And if you're like me, if you had tubular rims and tyres on it, you'd ride it less.

One of my hobbies lately has been "unbuilding" tubular wheels that have piled up over the years, to save the hubs!

The Gran Prix stem from Tecno Tubo Torino suggests machine manufactured in 1970.
It may have been a nominal 1971 model and/or purchased new in 1971.
OTOH it does express the Brampton Victor for which the 1971 model year was the first year.

Thanks for the info. It does have the "70" Nuovo rear der. It's pretty murky water trying to pin these guys down, but the chrome stays seem to make it an MKIII? Info available seems to indicate that Raleigh didn't care much what time of year it was to revise the Pro line.

It looks like a nice example of a mark II. Depending on your intended use, you could equip it to suit, and ride it, or restore to perfection.

It's an F, and pretty high number. Still I'd say pretty murky water making the 70-71 determination. It seems like the more info you look at, the less clear it becomes!

I'll probably give it a black Brooks Pro with the small rivets, some Rustine hoods (it just doesn't look right otherwise), and ride it around the n'hood! It's got a LOT of patina (you can barely see "Professional".) Not a show bike, but, no dents or rust or damage, and the campy group is really good cond. The kid who sold it said his friends dad gave it to him and he rode it around in college at U of Fla. Amazing there isn't damage on the bike considering that.
That's a beautiful Pro you have there. That's a 69? I have new and old bikes, and it's always a buzz to get on one of the old bikes and be reminded of how great they can feel to ride.

You know, it's a double but certainly looks like a triple. You've made me think about exactly what was done to that big ring. Not only drilled out, but the inner circle has been cut away so that it appears more like later chainrings. I wondered why I couldn't find the "Campagnolo" mark on it. It's been cut off! Good eyes SurferRosa.

F=1971. All Mark II and all Mark IIIs were indeed made the same year... 1971. Indeed, so were some Mark IVs (I owned one).
