Updating an old spare bike.. BB questions
For no other reason then it was my first bike I am upgrading the old back up bike.
Nothing major, but when it comes to the BB I am sorta lost.
Per manu specs it has a Tange Cartridge..
A friend gave me a nice FSA crank-set that was taken off a new bike with no more then a few test laps on at the shop he bought it at.
So the specs on the crank-set call for BB386EVO system.
So with all that said whats the best way to figure out what BB i need to get, and can I replace the BB i have now.
Google searches came back with little on the Tange Cartridge

Helps to know what it is you want to put it on. Ideally, if the existing BB has some numbers on it, those give clues. As well the model and year of your bike help too.

Its a 2014 Cannondal Caad8
I didnt tear into the BB yet. I wanted to ensure I could swap out BBs and cranks before I had it apart. I could not see any numbers on the OEM BB

The good news is that a BB386EVO crankset will mount to either of the bottom bracket types your CAAD8 might have -- English threaded or BB30. The 2014 Cannondale catalog shows the upper CAAD8 models with BB30 cranksets and the lower-end ones with square taper cranksets. If they're the same frame, then the square taper bottom brackets (like your Tange) are installed into a BB30 bottom bracket shell with an adapter.
The devil's in the details, though. If you've got a BB30 bottom bracket shell and an adapter for the Tange cartridge, you've got two options: (1) Remove the Tange cartridge and leave the BB30 adapter in place, installing BB386EVO bearings into the threaded adapter. (2) Remove the Tange cartridge, then remove the BB30/threaded adapter, and install a BB30/BB386EVO adapter directly into the shell. If you haven't had any problem with the existing bottom bracket, I'd be inclined to leave the existing adapter in place and install the BB386 crankset as if you were installing into a threaded bottom bracket shell. That way, you don't run the risk of damaging the press-fit bottom bracket shell surfaces while removing your original adapter.

Well I think the Caad8 came with BB30 and since a bb30 was Cannondale's contribution to the already hard to keep up with BB standards, I'd say it is a press fit. I've no experience with a press fit or BB30.
But I'm fairly certain there is a bb for your crankset that needs a bb386EVO and will fit your caad8. Pretty much that tells you the size of the hole for the spindle. Now you just need to find out for certain the shell on the frame is a BB30 or something else, which will tell you the ID and width.
Your Caad8 already has an FSA crank on it doesn't it? If you can see the model of the crank, you might be able to determine if the BB is already compatible with a bb386evo spec crankset spindle.

Thanks for the help.
I will have to get a better look once I can get back out to the bike... Work work work the next few days.
The Caad came with a Shimano 2300 crankset and shifters. All of that stuff will be gone soon hopefully

If you've got a good bike shop, you can take the frame in there and ask. A shop I used to use, took my frame, dug through their supply of BBs, tried one, didn't like it, tried another, fitted perfectly, charged me the price of the BB only. Mind you, it was a shop that knew me because I bought all my bits there and I was smart enough to go in when business was quiet.

Cannondales 2014 catalog shows the four different flavors of Caad8 come with FSA omega, FSA gossamer, or FSA vero cranks.
A square taper bb that the FC-2300 uses seems old tech to me, but I guess they used them in 2014 for new bikes. Or maybe someone exchanged it.

All,
thanks for the replies.
This has given me enough information to make the next step. Once I get into the actual swap I will be sure to post back with more questions.
And I am sorry, I posted it was a 2014... It is a 2013, forgot I bought it in 2014 but it was the past years model. Got it new, so everything was factory.
Side note: This might not be the most practical project, the bike is getting some new parts for a few reasons... None of which might be the most sensible. It is just what I wish to do with my first road bike.

The 2013 Cannondale catalog denotes some CAAD8 frames as 'BB30' while not mentioning a bottom bracket shell type for the Sora or 2300 versions. You'll have to visually ID your bottom bracket shell type to confirm whether it's (English) threaded or BB30, but that shouldn't be hard to do. If the Tange cartridge is threaded directly into the shell, you've got an English-threaded shell. If the Tange cartridge is installed into an adapter that's pressed into the shell, the bike has a BB30 bottom bracket shell.
Either bottom bracket shell type will work with your desired crankset, but you'd need a different bottom bracket for one versus the other. (Or you could just proceed as if it's an English-threaded bottom bracket, leaving the BB30-to-English adapter in place if you have one.)

Have you tried the new crank on the old bottom bracket? Perhaps there's no need to replace the bottom bracket …

I would assume that the BB housing is about 68mm wide.
Should have many options available to do what you want.

Finally got back to the bike.
So this is what the BB has on it that I pulled.
RPM
BB-7420
BC 1.37 x 24T
I tried the google machine and I am just not sure if I am not phrasing the BB question correctly. Still trying to figure out how to make this work

I tried the Google machine, and came up with this website. It says the BB386EVO standard is press fit, though there are apparently "adapters" or BB styles that will adapt it to a threaded BB shell. Your frame is definitely English-threaded.
More use of the Googles results in FSA's MegaEVO, which is the BB you need to use a BB386EVO crankset in a frame with a threaded shell.

This BB will work in your frame to run a FSA 386EVO crank
