About 15 easy miles before dawn. The first five were for time but I sucked, probably the result of basically a month of minimal riding, between bike maint and surgery. At least the stitches are out and I'm cleared to ride now, so, yee-haw, it's on.

I may have gotten shot at, or toward, this morning. About four miles from home, still dark, rolling along the highway with a couple cars on the far side maybe ten cars lengths ahead. I heard a loud firecracker pop, then a faint high-pitched dopplering whistle that came and passed within a second. Not the supersonic crack of a rifle round. Then after he passed, another pop but a mile behind me along the highway. That's life in the county. Yee-haw.

This first part should give everybody here a good laugh
I rode 3.1 miles today between rain falls!

However, those 3 miles gave me a total of 700 miles on my bike since I bought it in May.
I'm way out of shape, no stamina, diabetic with neuropathy, etc., but I just kept riding and the miles added up.
I'd love to put 1000 miles on my bike by end of summer, but here in Alaska, a person never knows when winter will start, so I'm ecstatic with what I accomplished already.

I enjoyed 12 miles this morning before the triple digits hit. I’ve been doing 10 miles most days, but I noticed I was riding faster today, so could get in a little more distance in the same time. I raised my seat up a bit yesterday, and I think it might have made me a little more efficient. I don’t know if that is true or not, or if it’s just coincidence. Either way, I enjoyed a good ride to start my day.

30 mile ride on a hot, sunny high summer day on the back road along the Winooski River between Richmond and Waterbury Vt. Lots of other cyclists had the same idea - the route is mostly shaded and it’s cooler along the river.

Spent about an hour and a half riding and adjusting fit on the SIX-5. Dropped the bars quite a bit and adjusted cleat position. I've been riding it basically stock since I bought it, so I guess it's about time to make some changes.

Nice ride with my husband along the American River Trail here in Sacramento. Only 12 miles, but that’s okay. Still working up to longer, faster rides. It was a nice change of scenery from the daily rides around the neighborhood. Plus, it passes through a park where we got to stop and enjoy for a short bit. It was 95 degrees when we finished up. Next time, we’ll need to get out there before 10 am.

50 miles with 2800’ of hills from the house to the in-laws today. Nice way to cap off a 500+ mile week!

Almost 22 miles in 90 degree sunny humid weather. Drank a big glass of lemonade with lemon Italian ice in it and 60 oz of water on the road; 48 oz of water since I got home. Took it easy on the ride. Next ride is scheduled for Tuesday (I'm way over 50) when it's supposed to be sunny and high 70s.

A 51-miler on the coast to escape the SF Bay Area heat wave. Cool enough to need arm warmers the whole day.

A beautiful day exploring the less traveled roads.

Made it to the state line this morning. The outbound distance was a little less than I usually do on a ride, so getting there was no problem, but then I had to turn around and do it again to get home. There Will Be Pain. Left 3:38am, back 7:43am with 45 min in food breaks. Probably in the 32-36 mile range, my first time crossing the 30-mile barrier. SO nice to be out in farmland, well, any time, but especially at dawn.

Last Friday rode 32 miles in the morning with the M-W-F repeating ride group.
Then, Saturday and Sunday rode about 40 flat, mostly rural miles each way from northern Indy to Frankfort for an overnight event with 7 other tandem teams. Visited the Frankfort Hot Dog Festival. Hot Dog! Climbed about 200 feet each way.

20 miles today, low 70s, which seemed excessively cool to me! With a little luck, I'll join my local club for a slow ride tomorrow.

Yesterday was 4 rides:
  • Drop off car at shop for a new hitch to mount bike rack - 5.5 miles
  • Ride back to get car when done - 5.5 miles
  • Running errands with BOB trailer, I got LP tank for grill, and planned to ride to the compost site with yard waste, but bumped into a neighbor driving his yard waste with his truck ... so he was kind enough to offer to take my stuff with him - .5 mile (was gonna be 4.5 miles)
  • Night ride to test my helmet light for The DAMn so I can read cue sheets in the darkest dark of night while riding the corn fields of Western Minnesota - 4.25 miles

BTW - the Knog on POC is a great helmet light, bright enough to see cue sheets and not heavy at all.

Began the new month of bike riding yesterday hoping for more road time than last month. Managed to be tardy getting to the beginning of Thursday's Group Ride so it was once again another SOLO ALL THE WAY ride. Being tired at the start with no wheels to suck and a puncture at the half way through the ride point slowed things down but still made it back home just as the rain drops started dropping and the thunder started rolling.

Age in miles + 1 for good measure = 70 miles to begin August riding.

13 miles on the local gravel roads. Got on the bike mid morning (after feeding the horses) to beat the heat and the forecast thunderstorms. Chose a different set of roads today, closer to the mountains but still at the base where the big horse estates and valley-flat going are plentiful. Just me, 2 pleasant cyclists also doing the gravel roads but in the opposite direction, 2 friendly riders hacking at a relaxing walk on the grassy shoulders, and 1 tired looking farm truck already busy working, albeit at a slow pace, hauling hay. Very peaceful, 7 mph sightseeing ride with cool-ish breezes and clear air. The best kind of ride. Waiting for my new noseless saddle to arrive.

Yes. Yes, I did. Magnificent day on Chicago's North Shore, absolutely magnificent. Sunny, high 70s, ENE wind under 10 mph. 23 miles on my bike.

I have 3 biking goals this year: 1100 miles, a 76 KM ride (age + 1), and 12 miles in the first hour after starting a ride. I'm on track for 110 miles and the 76 KM ride.

Because I start my ride on residential urban streets, I have a bunch of traffic lights and stop signs to get through; some of the lights are looooong. I have been despairing about the 12 miles/first hour goal, but I made it today.

Thursday - Went down to Franklin IN and rode the Franklin Friendly weekly club ride. Did the short route with several others - 18 mostly-rural miles on mostly nice roads.
Today - Spouse and I rode the M-W-F repeating club morning ride. 35 rural miles. Pretty flat, like yesterday. Spouse rode Trek e-assist and I rode long wheelbase RANS ti-assist.

This morning, 7:30am - 10:30am, warm up in some neighborhoods, stop at a park shelter for yoga strap stretches on a picnic table, then do bathtub intervals, up the hill on one side of the valley, back down and up the hill on the other side of the valley, rinse, repeat. Saw two neighbor dogs tearing an armadillo apart -- boy did he wander into the wrong yard, poor guy, but maybe that'll stop having my back yard torn apart. Saw a lady chasing a cow who was outside a fence but he jumped back inside when I passed, much to the woman's delight.

Rode the usual 15-mile "evaluation" ride after making some changes for fit. I'm using the Basso Gap as the guinea pig. The goal is to get a flatter back in a more aero position. Why? To go faster? IDK. Got a bee in my bonnet, I guess.

I haven’t ridden any this week, recovering from last week’s 500 miles, played golf every day, storms in the afternoons etc. I rode 78 miles with 3300’ of hills this morning. I ran into our Sunday morning group that had a nice group of 14 riders today but just waved and kept pedaling.

Been riding my usual 12 or so miles on my work break most days. I got a new saddle yesterday, and I like it better than the stock one. The stock one was a bit too narrow and I found my sit bones were hitting the edges, which led to some discomfort. I have a small sore from it, as well. The new saddle’s width allows the bones to fit more “squarely,” improving comfort. I think it was a good move.

40 flat, rural miles this morning on a M-W-F morning club ride. Averaged 17 mph on the first half, which is blazing by my standards, but slower on the return.
