26x1.75 tires ok on rims marked 1.5?
Can I put 26x1.75 tires on rims marked 1.5? The tires on it now are 26x1.5 but my local hardware store only has 26x1.75's , no bike shops in town- rural area. Thanks.

It should be OK if there is sufficient frame and component (brakes, front derailleur, fenders, etc.) clearance for the larger tires. Check all around to be sure, on two of my bikes the front derailleur is the tight spot for the rear tire.

Tires should be wider than the rims, generally speaking. 1.75" tires should be fine on 1.5" rims, as long as the tire fits within the bike frame/fork.

Almost no chance the OP's rims are actually 1.5" wide. They're just marked with a suggested tire size.

I've seen a rim marked 1.75 that was narrower then my 1.5's.
I can't imaging using a tire from 1.25 to 2.1" and feeling "uncomfortable" with a 1.5 marked rim.

I have a Schwinn Hurricane that the rims are marked Weinmann made in the USA and are marked 1.5" but the tires that were on it, which I believe are the original tires are 2.00. I just put 1.95" tires on them and they work great. I'll get a pic up when I'm allowed to. (new member here).
What type of bike do you have markcle? Just curious. Let us know how it goes. I found having the little plastic tool was a big help when I put new tires on mine yesterday. I didn't need it for one of the bikes I had but those were 2.3 tire size and I think that gave a bit more room. But the 1.95's I put on a different bike were tighter going on.
